Epiphone SG Special EB (http://www.feedback.nl/?id=55&b=12124)

or

Ibanez SA 120 BK (http://www.feedback.nl/?id=55&b=SA120BK)

?

Im leaning towards the first cuz a friend of mine already has the second

anyway
anyone has one of these/maybe even both?
which one's better?
pro's, cons?

etc etc

:)

SG's are so trite these days. They're not even that solid of guitars, its just they've been everywhere so they're selling like hotcakes.

The second one isn't very impressive either.

I would personally advise going secondhand/ex demo for a first guitair, and perhaps neither of those. If you are determined to go for one then it would depend more upon what you wanted it for and for what sort of music etc..

Punk(rock)/Hardcore (Punk), perhaps metal

oh and it isnt my first guitar, i have an accoustic, just my first electric one.

what kind of guitar would you recommend then?

[oh and im working on a budget here, over 300 euros is wayyy too expensive, 300 is even pushing it, since i have to buy an amp etc too. So yeh im not expecting it to be the best guitars in the world, just some [pretty damn] decent ones)

Fender Strats are good for learning IMO.

Yeah, you can pick up a Squier on ebay or something for £60-£80, good first electric.

Squirers get far too much business, a yamaha pacifica is far superior for the dollar shelled out.

As was mentioned this isn't a first guitar as such...

Still a pacifica is considerably cheaper (even new) than either of these guitars. They are common, easy to play and you could easily get one second hand and use it without loosing too much value on it. Then when you have a better idea of what suits you, sell it on to someone else as a first guitar and put a bit more into something special and fitted for you. If you can find a guitar you like to play go for that, but a pacifica is cheap and of better quality than entry level fender/epi/ibanez guitars in a lot of cases.

Your friend is most definitely wrong, though Squires are pretty shitty.

I play an Ibanez SA series guitar and it is very nice for the price (i got mine new for 100 bucks though). It has a VERY thin body making it very light weight. this is what attracted me to it in the first place. The stock pickups are certainly not too terrible, though I suggest you buy some new ones that lend themselves to your taste of music. Overall it plays alright.

I have played the Ephiphone SG a lot as well, though I would never own one. I don't know if you have ever played one, but the bridge on the SG is VERY far back on the body, and it takes a LOT of getting used to so as to do proper palm mutes. I personally don't like how it feels. It is also a pretty heavy guitar compared to the Ibanez SA, though I would say that the stock pickups are a hair better, but not enough for me to justify buying it.

i would strongly recommend the ibanez.

also, if you are going to play hardcore/metal, do NOT buy a strat. single coil pickups do not lend themselves to the genre.

I'd go for the Ibanez. If you're only willing to spend enough to get that SG, it's not worth it. Might as well save up a little longer and buy a better SG instead of wasting your money on that piece o' shit.

The Ibanez is a better deal, but personally I'm not a fan of their tone.

Get the guitar that's more fun to play, it'll make you want to play more.

I'd go for the Ibanez. If you're buying online, you can't trust Squires, because they're extremely inconsistent with the quality. An Ibanez is much safer to buy over the internet.
