Is amazing, I would highly recommend it. It's very happy, upbeat, and quite strange. The last album, Illiniose! is really great and beautiful. The music is full of horns, chorus singers, and strings. A great combination. The album is all about Illinois and its history and has a really great mix of happy upbeat with dark and brooding songs.

Happy:

Come On! Feel The Illinoise!: Part I: The World's Columbian Exposition/Part II: Carl Sandburg Visits Me In A Dream
The Man Of Metropolis Steals Our Hearts
The Tallest Man, The Broadest Shoulders: Part I: The Great Frontier/Part II: Come To Me Only With Playthings Now

Dark:

The Seers tower
John Wayne Gacy Jr.
Casimir Pulaski Day
A Short Reprise For Mary Todd, Who Went Insane, But For Very Good Reasons

Its a great album, it get my personal stamp of approval. Its not leftist, but very good music for those of you looking for some.

It's pretty good. Michigan is even better, IMO. Seven Swans is also up there. I'm also interested in the Christmas EPs he's recorded.

I'm quite certain there's already a thread about Sufjan around here somewhere. You might wanna look for it.

I like Sufjan Stevens quite a bit. And since I've spent a good deal of my life in both Illinois and Michigan, I can relate to a lot of his lyrics. I do dislike some of his religious themes though, after all he was raised by a pastor.

Hailing from Michigan I can say that he depicts the moods of the state perfectly in his "Say Yes! to Michigan!" album.

Driving thru Flint while listening to "Flint (For the Unemployed and Underpaid)" is like something from a movie.

A friend of mine is completely and utterly obsessed with Sufjan Stevens. The amount of times I've heard him go on about it has caused me to hate him and I've never even listened to him haha
