My mother is doin a social policy piece and is reffering to Engels. She was trying to find a term for him, but "Marxist" seems off, how could you summarise him?

Communist or Scientific Socialist.

I agree with JustJoe; I think Engels would have quite proudly referred to himself as a "scientific socialist" or just a communist.
