I lurked a few days here and decided to bite the bullet, mainly because it seems geniunely diverse and not overly back-slapping here, unlike oh so many places.

Well, a bit about me...

I was raised in an Irish Republican Socialist environment, so I suppose that could be considered a bit of a headstart in life. Due to the ideological rather than sectarian nature of my household, I feel I avoided being trapped in the narrow political bands forged by our situation, and am (at least to an armchair degree) less of a flag waver and more of a realist.

I would ultimately call myself an anarchist, but I'm finding it difficult finding like minded people over here.

Ironically, I work as a Civil Servant! (so I'm complicated)

I read mainly Chomsky, and am fascinated particularly by the control of public opinion through the media as any power's ultimate weapon.

I do not believe in "good and evil", and feel that those in charge are wrong, as opposed to simply being fat-cat villians, twiddling their moustaches and laughing at us!

I try my best not to offend others; its simply not my nature, and any opinion (no matter how outlandish or downright wrong) is worth listening to.

Welcome. :D

I'm from Northern Ireland too and a few more of us as well, including a couple of Irish Republican Socialists.

welcome!

could you explain to me how you deal with it, being anarchist tended and a civil servant? How did that situation happen?

I don't wish to answer for this comrade, but being in the civil service isn't inherently anti-socialist. In the UK just now the civil service unions is one of the most left wing in the coutry and has been involved in militant action recently.

An archist: Bolshevic Butcher pretty much nailed it, however I understand exactly where you're coming from, man.
While sitting in the belly of the beast might seem contrary to socialism in that I'm actively working FOR it, advocates of popular ideology can do little if they purposely set themselves apart from the machine and society (besides the odd crank letter to MPs from their caves!). If all the great doers and thinkers of the world put themselves in exile on moral grounds it would be tantamount to suicide, as far as any movement is concerned.

Yeah, the sectarian us-against-them mindset is a bastard but that only means we have to struggle for a Socialist alternative all the harder.

TAKN: Uneventful, but cheers for asking, man. Tell your sister some Irish guy from an internet forum wishes her happy birthday. I'm sure she'll be overwhelmed by the sentiment!
