I know a lot of artists performed and even recorded and sold music dealing with Hurricane Katrina, particularly the effects of it, the strife of the affected, government incompetence, etc.

I recently bought and have become amazed with Allen Toussaint's and Elvis Costello's collaboration, The River in Reverse. It's a mix of Costello originals, classics by Toussaint, and new songs co-written by the two, dealing with the aforementioned subject.
Now, I think Toussaint is like the king of laid-back, New Orleans style, soul, jazz, whatever. But Elvis Costello is just something entirely different. So I was unsure about this thing. But it's brilliant. Elvis Costello CAN be soulful. The arrangements are excelent and faithful to the New Orleans sound. Some are classics by Toussaint. So be prepared to hear things like "Tears, Tears And More Tears" and "Who's Gonna Help Brother Get Further" interpreted by Elvis Costello.
