Comrades,
I am seeking advice on how to approach this piece of university coursework regarding the cold war..
the essay question i have chosen is:

To what extent was the Cold War a battle between two states seeking to dominate the international system or two ideologies seeking the best way for people to live thier lives?

how would you approach this? keeping in mind I must reffer to numerous historians, etc.

and what is your stancce on the cold war in this respect anyway?

thanks.

This is actually a pretty good question.

I would say the former. If anything, it was an inter-imperialist rivalry. The Sino-Soviet split demonstrates this about as well as anything else.

The Spanish Civil War is another good example.
