I always liked ancient history, in little school we did like romans and vikings and greeks, or native americans which were really interesting to see how times have changed, then for GCSEs we had to choose, either "Economic and Social" (Industrial Revolution) or "World" (20th Century), I would have loved to have done real olden days history, but we had to do more modern stuff.

I love ancient history as well. Modern history is intersting (especially revolutionary history), but has never captured my imagination in the same way. I too have been disappointed by the lack of opportunity to study ancient history at high school (faced by IGCSEs and then IB). However, so long as all goes well with my exams in May, I will be studying Anglo-Saxon Norse and Celtic at Cambridge in a year's time. I suggest - if you have not already tried this - that you read independently within ancient history.

Have you been to university yet? If not than why not apply to read ancient history, classics or something like that at university.

Yes ancient history rocks. But revolutionary history sucks (its all the evil dicator takes over and then gets kicked off or dies)... the best is ones with loads of wars, like napolionic history.

Last time I checked the Napoleonic wars were the result of a revolution. As for the 'evil guy' getting into power... this is often the case but not always. Look at Cuba, Vietnam, Russia. I think all these revolutions installed leaders who were, admitedly, flawed, but did much for their respective countries.

But it's true that wars do have a certain interest. I guess that's part of my problem with the Cold War. The US and USSR just keep on vacillating, talking about war, planning war, but never really having it.

I like Pre-Hellenic history. Stuff from the development of humanity, up to the Pelopenisian wars. That time period has always been interesting, since it's practically ancient history.

Revolutionary history dull? Dufus; if you got off your lazy ass and read some BIOGRAPHIES, i.e. Che: A revolutinary Life, Fidel Castro, Bolshevik revolution you will be dismayed. I hate moronic BIASED Leftist's liek you who GIVE US A BAD NAME. YOU ARE WORSE THAN THE CONSERVATIVEs. Ignorance is not bliss.
