View Full Version : Anarchism

I have been reading Kropotkin quite extensively, and am getting very interested in Anarchism (as ironic as that may sound), so my question to the forum is, where are some good sites, and good books, that would contain good information on Anarchism, (mainly what I am looking for is theory).
Thanks to all that contribute.

Don't worry about your "political past," mate. Fairly confident we all made mistakes. I fancied myself a Leninist for about a week.

Man, I am speachless. I voted Nader the first time around and Kerry this last time, although I wanted Kucinich. The first time I could vote I was in boot camp and didn't get an absentee ballot.
I know some of you are saying, "hey aren't you an anarchist, why are you voting?" Well, yes that is true, and I understand that by voting I lend legitimacy to the current establishment, but hey while it is still here I can at least try to shape it.

How could anyone be a Leninist for a week? Political ideology is not an identity, well at least not any real political ideology.

heh, I considered myself a state communist for a while, that was before I read up on it and realised the end stage was good, but the state just messed things up.

Semantics, you have 'Marxist-Leninist' as your custom title, because you identify as a Marxist-Leninist, you identify with the ideology of M-L, you are a Marxist-Leninist. You're not born into Marxist-Leninism, you acquire this knowledge and choose to either accept it as valid, or reject it. When you choose to accept this ideology as valid you ipso facto are identifying with it politically, it is becoming your identity or at least your political identity - it is what defines your politics, the lense through which you view and interpret the world.

How could anyone identify with Marxism-Leninism for one week? It is impossible.
Edit: I left out a "for one week".

For fuck's sake, don't be so obtuse, discuss what i've said in response to that very question, don't just repeat your contention.

He didn't say 'one week', he said 'I fancied myself a Leninist for about a week'.
I.E. he thought of himself as a Leninist for a SHORT period of time, which may or may not literally be a week, i'd wage he was being rhetorical, and not literal when he said 'about a week', as in, for not very long.
Regardless, why do you insist on contending this?
What point are you trying to make? (I suspect you did not expect someone to take issue with your statement and actually respond, your statement wass meant as a snide attack, yes?)
How could someone identify with M-L for 'about a week'? Simple.
Non-Leninist marxist/socialist/anarchist types engages with works of Lenin seriously for the first time, finds said texts appealing, they make sense, and agrees largely with the ideas/analysis contained therein. Then person reads more of Lenin and finds points of disagreement, or perhaps reads up on the history of leninist practice in the 20th century and finds the practice of M-L does not correspond with their ideas, or reads non-Leninist marxist/anarchist or texts criticial of Lenin/Leninism and agrees with these ideas/analysis more than the M-L texts. etc.
Now i'm bored, happy?

Hiero, you really care about me! That's so cute.
And clearly, I wasn't being literal in my "a week" phrase. It was a short period of my life before I discovered :o anarchist theory! and substantial critiques of Lenin and Marx, then finally got it.
Satisfied? Sheesh, how did this thread turn into the "me show"?

Meh, I was once a liberal.
There are all kinds of great authors to read on anarchism, or relating to workers' struggles: Zinn, Chomsky (must read, even if you think he's a reformist, his critique of Leninism and capitalism are both compelling), Bakunin, and Proudhon.

Voting does nothing but legitimise the establishment and let them do whatever they feel like because hey, they have your 'mandate'.

yeah good point but you get what i mean, yeah? if we get enough people to choose something different (like say not vote) maybe we can change it. all it takes is a little balls, and an eye for the truth. that's destroying it from the inside
