Nearly half of Americans uncertain God exists: poll
Oct 31 6:52 PM US/Eastern
Nearly half of Americans are not sure God exists, according to a poll that also found divisions among the public on whether God is male or female or whether God has a human form and has control over events.
The survey conducted by Harris Poll found that 42 percent of US adults are not "absolutely certain" there is a God compared to 34 percent who felt that way when asked the same question three years ago.
Among the various religious groups, 76 percent of Protestants, 64 percent of Catholics and 30 percent of Jews said they are "absolutely certain" there is a God while 93 percent of Christians who describe themselves as "Born Again" feel certain God exists.
When questioned on whether God is male or female, 36 percent of respondents said they think God is male, 37 percent said neither male nor female and 10 percent said "both male and female."
Only one percent think of God as a female, according to the poll.
Asked whether God has a human form, 41 percent said they think of God as "a spirit or power than can take on human form but is not inherently human."
As to whether God controls events on Earth, 29 percent believe that to be the case while 44 percent said God "observes but does not control what happens on Earth".
The survey was conducted online between October 4 and 10 among 2,010 US adults.

Wow! The results of this poll surprised me. It is often repeated over and over again how the US is the most religious/superstitious first-world country with levels of devotion much greater than that in Europe and Canada. The fact that 42% of American express at least some doubt at the sky-god's very existence can only be encouraging to revolutionaries. The much-hyped spiritual revival in the US and the rise of the born-again Christian fanatics may not be as great and as penetrating into "mainstream" American working society as previously thought.

The poll is skewed, because all an American has to do is look at their president to think "there is no god..."

Expressing doubt about the existence of God is very different from professing atheism. All religous people have doubt.
James Chapter 1 Verses 2-5
2 My brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of any kind, consider it nothing but joy, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance; 4 and let endurance have its full effect, so that you may be mature and complete, lacking in nothing.

What is all this shit about Angels? Have you heard this? Three out of four people now, believe in Angels. What're you, fuckin' stupid? Has everybody lost their fuckin' minds in this country? Angels, shit. You know what I think it is? I think it's a massive collective psychotic chemical flashback of all the drugs. All the drugs, smoked, swallowed, snorted, shot, and absorbed rectally by all Americans from 1960 to 1990. Thirty years of adulterated street drugs'll get you some fuckin' Angels, my friend.
Angels, shit. What about goblins? What about goblins, huh? Doesn't anybody believe in goblins? You never hear about them except on Halloween and it's always negative shit too, you know. And Zombies. Where the fuck are all the Zombies? That's the trouble with Zombies, they're unreliable. I say if you're gonna buy the Angels shit, you might as well go with the Zombie package as well.

I know. I wasn't questioning that statement, merely stating how it surprised me that in a country like the US, where levels of religious worship were/are so high, that nearly half are not completely sure if God exists.

Who knows about these polls. One says half of people are unsure if god exists, and another says 75% believe in angels.

yeah people do seem to have really contradictory views.
Like in one poll more people put they were religious than believed in a personal god.
Unless there are loads of Buddhists in the UK, that a pretty weird result.
When people answer polls i think that unless you are either devout religious or atheist then you might chop and change your mind with a high fequency.
I remember doing that when i knew FA.
