Would the world be different if Trosky had come to power instead of tha bastard Stalin. would there be more communism in the world and would it be exepted more in todays society? would people be less sceptical of it? Stalin is a trator to his people and the left of the world

T would have only been in power until it was no longer necessary, would've helped the German people overthrow Hitler; helped Spain in the Civil War; and capitalism would be history in Europe. Also, there'd have been no mysterious vanishings, gulags, show trials, etc.
Why do Stalinists think Stalin was the disciple of Lenin?

This wiki "what if" article is a joke. Trotsky was one of the most egotistical, bloodthirsty members of the Party. The idea that Stalin suffered from Lenin's Testament is nonsense; Stalin faired much, much better than anyone else. Lenin pointed out Trotsky's non-Bolshevik past, considered Buhkarin not fully Marxist, and brought up Kamenev and Zinoviev's treachery. Only in a post-script does Lenin say even a single negative thing about Stalin, and only that he is too rude. In any case, Stalin immediately offered his resignation at the next party congress, which everyone, Trotsky included, refused.

Nor is anything mentioned of Trotsky's policy on the trade unions. He basically wanted to militarize labor; anyone who wouldn't work would be thrown in labor camps. Trotsky was absolutely and utterly brutal, egotistical, and concerned with his own power and prestige. Everyone could see this, which is why no one liked him. This "what if" wiki is pure idiocy. Trotsky more committed to democratic centralism? Nothing could possibly be further from the truth.

I also think that the article isn't any good. Remember that Trotsky did have the ability to perform a coup d'etat against the weak Stalinist government (at the time) but decided not to because he understood it would only transfer power from one bureaucracy to another. I think what really sealed the fate of the USSR was the outcome of the German (and West-European) revolution, Russia at the time wasn't equipped for socialist development. That's also the reason Lenin decided to start the comintern as he saw the prospects of successful socialist development in Russia without aid from more advanced countries as rather bleak.

What sealed the fate of the USSR? I don't know but I'd say it was Stalin's coming to power. By beaucratizing the party and consolidating worker power he set the stage for what the USSR would become, however the real question is whether these were necessary measures that he took. By taking these measures he turned a backward third world peasant country into a industrialized nuclear super power.

What would the USSR look like if Trotsky had come to power? Probably more democratic due to his writings and the stance he'd take while in exile, but weither it would've survived WWII and the cold war (until 1990) is really unknown considering that the USSRs survival came through Stalin's industrialization.

Someone (Severian if i remember correctly) in an early post said that Stalin did not create the bureaucracy it was already present and started to show its ugly face.Stalin fitted for its need and survival so he used it naturally to consolidate power. ever wonderd why Khrushchev even after denouncing Stalin never tried to break up what he created ? when he did try he was in turn deposed by Brezhnev.even if Trotsky became Lenin's successor he would have been deposed nevertheless. only very few people identified it and even few people tried to fight it.Lenin's illness prevented him from effectively fighting it and Trotsky saw Bukharin as a bigger threat than Stalin.

A democratic USSR under Trotsky is highly impossible because of the same reason it didn't materialize under Lenin.but nonetheless the effects of paranoia of Stalin would have been totally absent and it could have been still existing....

the industrialisation will have happened nonetheless because Stalin's rapid industrialisation and five year's plan had been borrowed from Trotsky's original proposal as a replacement of war communism in 1920 itself.

I agreee that wiki contains many errors . it is just a fictional argument . alt history is a fiction in the sense it has a point of deviation from actual history and does not take evevry facts from what actually happend and some times does not mention wat led to the point of deviation(in fact many of such things exist in that page right from what if jesus is not crucified ? what it wheel is not discoverd etc.). if it is against forum rules and guidelines to bring fiction in a history topic i apologise for bringing it in the first place
