Castro was giving a public speech and mentioned the elections that had been promised. From the crowd some "timid and faint" voices cry out "elections for what?" unfortunately for Castro his microphones didn't pick up the voices the first time so he pauses and looks out to the crowd. (a strange occurence since he is known to detest being interrupted and usually ignores any) He puts a hand to his ear and says "what did you say?" again some voices cry out "elections for what?!" and then Castro in front of the cameras exclaims "elections for what?!" he shakes his head in a surprised manner, lifts his eyebrows and purses his lips and says "if you say so...if the people say so". and that was the last time he mentioned his promised elections
one of the more amusing pieces of history i think even if you argue it was genuine
