I have noticed that there is a thirteen volume set of Stalin's Works, printed in the 1950's. I feel that it would be good to have this for reference and a primary source of an opponent of Trotsky, but I can't seem to find a decently-priced set anywhere (the cheapest one I have found is $300 at ebay. I got a 47 volume set of Lenin's Collected Works for $450, so I think that is a bit pricey for only 13 books.). Is there anywhere that sells such sets for cheaper, or like the case of Vygotsky's Collected Works I was looking for earlier, are these going to generally be rather expensive?

I'd check for a version from the Foreign Language Press (Peking). They published tons of stuff in cheap paperback form. I don't know where you live, but Revolution Books (RCP's stores) are good places to get 'em.

That's a good price for Lenin's works. Generally I would pay about $9-10 a book for used. Just curious, is the Lenin set from the Soviet Union or the set printed by the CPUSA (International Publishers)?

As for Stalin works, my wife picked it up for about $150 US on e-bay two years ago. $300 is a bit high IMO, but if that's including shipping then it might be worth it.

There are some things missing from the 13 volumes, as it was published after he died and the revisionists left certain things out. I believe there is a CP in India that publishes about 16 volumes of Stalin's works. I think it includes "Short History of the CPSU(b)" which is primarily the work of Stalin.

Good luck.

They sell them for $5 each at a local bookstore near me. Read a few articles, like the one against anarchism. Really not good material for debate.

Yeah, I would suggest getting Rosa Luxemburg's and Amadeo Bordiga's works as well.

My Lenin set was published in the USSR by Progress Publishers, most being from the 1960's to early 1970's. A couple were from Moscow Foreign Languages Publishing house (earlier, 1962, but they look identical to the later ones. The publishing house must have eventually been renamed). I have heard of the International Publishers ones. They are older and less complete, based on what I have heard.

Some things missing. Possible, given that Krushchev and others were probably looking for a scapegoat for problems they encountered. Even the English LCW set is not complete, as it was based on the fourth Russian edition. I believe that there is a Russian fifth edition spanning over 50 volumes from Progress Publishers.

I was not aware that they also published this. I got Mao's selected works from the Peking Foreign Languages Press.

I have heard that there is an RCP store in the Twin Cities, not too far from where I live. I should look into that, perhaps.

I am a Trotskyist, so not a Stalinist, but I feel that it will be good to have such works for reference, and there was at least considerable progress in the USSR under Stalin.

You can actually download the Stalin Works for free as .pdf files over on Marx2Mao:

That's what I did personally, rather than going through the trouble of ordering the Works and paying for them.

Even if i was anti-Stalin i would've been pissed at that....

Thats like saying you shouldn't read and try and understand Hitler cause the bourgeouisie is telling you so (I know Hitler isn't good for comparision, but in you're mind it probably eqauls to some extend).
