Im suprised that there is not a topic for this allready.
well anyways, have any of you seen the movie Red's. It just got released on DVD, it came out in the early 80's. It follows the story of John Reed, who also wrote 10 Days that shook the world. It basically follows the Russian Revolution, and the forming of the Communist Party. I thought it was a wonderful movie. Very lengthy, but nontheless good.

Nope, I haven't ever seen it. I've been trying to download a VHS rip for awhile but no one has the complete file. I'm hoping that this DVD release makes the film more easily accessible for download.

There's at least a couple bits of made-up Hollywood history in this.

Like they make a big deal about some Bolshevik translator supposedly misrepresenting Reed's speech at the Baku Congress, and Reed gets real mad about it.....

This never happened.

Basically they're trying to give the movie a moral about the revolution being betrayed already, or something, and invent some history to support that.

On a side note, today, in 1917, the bolsheviks revolted in Petrograd and easily took over many government buildings. Tommorow, or the 25th, The bolsheviks would strom the winter palace and in a 9 hour battle, take the winter palace and take control of the government.

Of course by our gregorian calander this actually happened on like November 5th but since the Russians were still using the Julian calendar the Revolution is called the Great October Socialist Revolution.

I saw it but was bored by Jack Nicholson's portrayal of playwright Eugene O'neil--- an incessant alcoholic. Actually I was bored throughout the whole movie. Emma Goldman comes out in it too.
