Well.. It's maybe not the absolutely newest news. But I often talk with a friend of mine who work in China as a busdriver who of course is happy about the good devolpments there. Some years ago he normally worked for about 8 hours a day (labour rights). Now the labour rights doesn't exist any more and he work between 13-15 hours every day. (For about the same salary) even the prices of rice have rised.
What also is a bit "funny" is that the copyright law is REALLY strong there now. So buying movies and cd's is quite expensive, but a normal worker can't afford using his money buying this. But downloading these things isn't quite so nice anymore as you can get sued for many 1000's of US dollar.

So why's he happy about it?

I was trying to be ironical about that. Sorry if it wasn't clear enough.

Well, they've only recently been trying to crack down on the pirated/counterfeit stuff.

Not a big surprise considering the abysmal labor practices and the constant harassment of peasants by the CPC
The government claims that its middle class is growing at breathtaking speed, shit even one of my professors claimed that China is the future of the world economy, yet both these declarations completely overlook and regard workers and peasants as commodities that can be used up and then discarded
