View Full Version : Celebrating a historic uprising

23 October 1956 marked a very important day for Hungary. For years they had been under Soviet Stalinist rule and watched as many of their freedoms taken away. But on that day, Hungarian students demonstrated in protest of the USSR's iron fist. In early November, Stalin sent tanks to crush the uprising. Many fled, and many died. Cries for freedom by Western countries were ignored, but people still remember that historic day of protest.

Discuss.

Come on, tankies.
You know you want to.

From the grave? Damn, he's even greater than I thought. But yeah, I hear ya: let's blame Stalin for the actions of a party led by a man who thoroughly denounced that very same Stalin earlier.

From the grave?

Didn't you know? Despite being dead, Stalin overcame his debilitating handicap and maintained position as supreme ruler of the USSR.

Don'cha know?
It was an 313C7R!C 6R4V3!
Stalins brain, as his body layed in a waxed state, was kept alive and hooked up to electrodes-- that went all over the USSR. He controlled all the lines behind communications, all the signals to send the bombs, how the trains ran, ect.

Why do you think we have the internet now?

Just so you know, this wasn't a student revolt, it was students and workers. And it wasn't a revolt against Soviets, it was the first time Soviets had been organized since the 20's. And the west ignored hungarian workers' cries for freedom and let them be crushed, because no matter how much they hated the degenerated workers' state, they hated a healthy one more.

1) Imre Nagy's government was not a workers' anything.
2) There's no such thing as a "workers' state".
3) The only healthy thing is what made that revolution into a revolution: workers' councils. The DoP was embodied in the councils.
