Who can explain Africa's current state of affairs?

AIDS, famine, murder and rape seem to be rampant. There is no real economic activity to speak of. Very few have electricity, plumbing or even paved roads.

Cannibalism is still going on in many areas. Some Africans believe you can cure AIDS by raping virgins. Little kids are running around with AK-47s and machettes.

Is this all Europe/Americas fault? Why has there been no scientific advancements made in Africa? Why are they still living in straw huts? They are 1000's of years behind the rest of the world. It seems they never went beyond the stone age.

Why? Europe/Americas fault?

Yes, but these problems are all over the continent.

the geography of the continent cut many areas off to trade, so those regions didn't develop as fast as other areas in the world. this led to their lands being imperialized by european nations who raped them of their own natural recources, and when the imperialists left they left africa in dissarray with little infrastructure. the nations were then divided up ignoring various ethnic groups and their feuding, which led to many civil wars which further made economic growth impossible. problems such as AIDs and famine are just a result of their economic position.

The Common Agricultural Policy of the Euripean Union does not allow African Agriculture access to a foreign market, despite the fact that they can produce agricultural products at far lower cost, and periodically floods the market with 'dumped' fruit and vegatables, which drives down prices and thus harms the welfare of millions of marginal farmers. This is in a deserate effort to conserve independence in food production and avoid structural unemployment.

Note also that the Abstinence-focused program of the Bush Administration means that all the resources MEDCs have avaliable to fight aids are not being fully utilised due to a superstituous religous myth.

Well depends.

There has been some very advanced black civilizations--like ethiopia and ghana--that were completely obliterated by imperialism.

However, sub-saharan africa has always been crap, simply because there aren't the conditions to sustain advanced agriculture--which of course is the base of civilization. In sub-saharan africa, it is very difficult to grow crops like wheat, barley, and rice, and instead they have to resort to the much less nutritious yam.

So yeah, anyone who says poverty in sub-saharan africa is the fault of imperialism needs to do some reading.

However, imperialism today is certainly not helping those countries at all.

btw: arent you that ironfelix guy, why did you turn into CAPITALISM or something. stalin doesnt seems as appealing anymore?
