Europe : There was a 'European Meeting' to organise in Europe for the International Demonstrations in November, on Saturday 4th March, in Frankfurt am Mein, Germany. This was a very constructive meeting which has laid the ground for successful demonstrations around Europe for November 4th, the Saturday before the Nairobi Climate Talks. To see the minutes from the meeting click here. Since then there have been meetings in Milan, Italy (17th June) and Berlin, Germany (24th June).
At the European Social Forum in Athens, May 4th-7th there was a very well attended seminar focussed on building for November 4th whilst this initiative also dominated the main Climate Change seminar, organised by Greek Green organisations.
Africa: There was a meeting in Nairobi, Kenya, to organise for an event to mark the UN Climate talks there in November, on 19th April, hosted by 'Practical Action'. This was a very successful meeting attended by a wide range of NGOs as well as Ashok Sinha from Stop Climate Chaos (UK) and Phil Thornhill from Campaign against Climate Change (UK). It was decided that a march in Nairobi would be the best option and the date would be 11th November, the Saturday midway through the Talks, when the delegates would actually be present, but there would still be a chance to influence the outcome. A wide range of NGOs in Kenya are now cooperating on this project.
