View Full Version : Fidel Castro NOT dying

HAVANA - The ailing Fidel Castro is not dying but is recovering from an illness, his younger brother and Cuba's acting president said Sunday in response to rumors that the leader was on his deathbed.

Raul Castro, who has been standing in for his brother since July 31, was responding to recent reports including one in Time magazine that said Castro apparently has terminal cancer. Castro is recovering from intestinal surgery but the lack of details from the Cuban government regarding the nature of his illness has sparked a number of rumors about his health.

"He is not dying like some of the press in Miami is saying," Raul Castro told a youth congress in Havana. "He is constantly getting better."

The younger Castro said Fidel has a telephone next to him "and he's using it more and more every day." He said he had a long working session with his brother just two days ago.

Fidel, 80, has not appeared publicly since July 26, and no new photographs of the leader have been released in three weeks. He was last shown receiving private visits by world leaders during the Nonaligned Movement summit in mid-September, which was hosted by Cuba.

In late September, the elder Castro did not meet with visiting Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov, whose two-day trip to Cuba marked the highest-level visit from Russia since President Vladimir Putin came to the island in 2000.

Last week, local media reported Foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque told Cubans that Castro will return to his post as maximum leader, but he did not say when.

"This takes time, but he's right there," Raul Castro said Sunday. "Little by little, he's working."

The acting president presided over the closing session of a state-sponsored youth congress, which brought together 900 schoolchildren aged 6 to 12 — an age group known as "pioneers" on the communist-run island.

The children gave their support to the ailing Castro in a message published Sunday on a government-run newspaper's Web site, saying his presence was felt at the event.

They also said they would defend the island's revolution against any assault by the U.S. government, calling President Bush and his supporters "cockroaches."

"To Bush and his followers, we say stop being foolish, and that they are truly a bunch of cockroaches," they said in their message. "Don't mess with us, because the pioneers are also ready to defend the Revolution."

It's getting a bit silly. First it was Alzheimers, then it was death, and then they supposedly "shopped" a picture of him holding a Granma... at this rate, nobody's going to believe it when he actually dies!

Cappies and their media scum, u can always count on them to give u a good laugh

Until Fidel or the Cuban government announces something, then I'll believe
After all, the revolution is not about one man, but rather a mass of ppl
We'll mourn when Fidel is gone, but the revolution lives on with the Cuban ppl

I may hate authoritarian reds, but I know I'll be sad deep down when Fidel carks it. There's something about him that's likeable. It'd be a laugh if he lived another 100 years and outlived America itself.

The truth is that it is not terminal cancer. What really happened is they found evidence of an alien growing in side of him, so they cut it out, and it is now in a secret lab being developed into a bio-weapon to use against the Americans. But a strange side effect occurred and some of the alien's DNA crossed-over into Fidel. He has metamorphosed into a 9 foot tall 400 lb. demon with wings and claws, which is why they aren't releasing any photos.

Well, it's about as factual as any report from the US.

I agree. America is a bully - coward inside, facade of toughness outside. As long as there is someone in Cuba who can fill Castro's shoes, then America will be kept very much at bay.

I'm not the biggest Castro fan but I do fear that when (IF) he dies Cuba will be Americanized very quickly.

The man is a hero of our lifetime.

I'd like to think most on here would be sad when he finally does go. Maybe not, though, eh, NWOG? <_<

He's not gonig anywhere yet though, so tough shit. Plus, he gets right up the Americans noses, especially the traitors in Miami, and thats funny in itself. :D

More worried about the Cuban people and Cuba's future, than sentimental about an old ruler, even despite his "charitable causes".

I agree with what most of you are saying. It isn't all about Fidel, although I think nobody will be able to do what he has done. I don't doubt him either. He will return to his position, even if it is for another 3 years. He will remain Cuba's leader till his death. And after his death, the revolution will live on through the Cuban people. VIVA LA REVOLUCION!!!

The Cuban revolution will not cease to exist have Fidel's death.... there are some very able young people who could take over (Roque).

I have nearly total confidence in Raul, especialy since he said that he will not follow the Chinese path.... But then again I have only one thing to add here: VIVA FIDEL

they are both old tho - and need to make room for people in cuba to make their own decisions, not be dictated upon. cuba has its good parts - and its darker side too. its pretty amazing its held out for so long. maybe america will have another revolution before cuba falls....
