Recently I started an independent study program on Catholicism to replace normal CCD class, because apparently I was asking too many questions. I was given a book to read called Catholicism and Reason. ("You're giving away the plot!")

Of course, the first chapter was filled with all the fucking FALLACIOUS reasoning about

-Early tribes believing in God so therefore he must have existed (wow, so Hitler was right?)
-The watchmaker argument ( I think it's safe to say that the universe has no surroundings)
-First Cause argument (Where ya gonna draw the line, *****? [meant in an insulting way not a patriarchical way] )
-Astronauts (all I can say is LOL)
-Evolution "is just a theory" (Heliocentrism is just a theory too  )
-People without God feeling an emptiness in their lives ( O FKNG RLY? )
-Atheists having animosity towards God so therefore they are either psychotic (hating something that doesn't exist) or God does exist (...hypothetical reasoning anyone? Aren't we allowed to hate the God concept and the effect it has on society?)
-The importance of submission to God (sieg heil! )

So...there were a few discussion questions to answer. Allow me to pwn them right here and now.

1. Does religion play an important part in people's lives today?

Like in suicide bombing, intolerance, faith psychosis and other shit? yeah.

2. Give some examples of an interest in God and religion today.

Child abu--er, indoctri--er, religious "education."

3. Give some examples of people who seem to keep religious principles far removed from their daily activities.

Scientists, inventors, Food Not Bombs, revolutionaries, Oaxaca commune, philosophers, in short, people who FIND SHIT OUT and GET SHIT DONE.

4. Does separation of church and state mean that God has no place in the workings of government?

God has no place anywhere because "he" doesn't exist.
Government has no place anywhere because it is inherently oppressive and hinders societal growth.

5. What do you want to learn from this course?

Exactly how easy it is to shoot down the Catholic Church with a single argument.

6. Write a short paper on one teaching of the Church that you strongly agree with and give your reasons.

Okay...The Church *teaches* that reason is important and should not be thrown away. Without reason, we would be in the Dark Ages being all relativist liberal shits about what is the sum of 2 and 1. Reason is the foundation of all progress.

7. Write a short paper on one teaching of the Church that you strongly disagree with and give your reasons.

Hmm...the misogyny? The homophobia? The hierarchy? So much to choose from...How about the teaching that God exists? This is the most useless and fragile teaching I have ever come across. Anyone armed with just Occam's Razor, a list of informal fallacies or basic science knowledge can completely obliterate it.

I take a Catholic theology class taught be a Monk. It's actually pretty funny, but sad too since so many people believe. I used to debate more in class with him, but he just started making really lame points and is really reactionary and I don't like debating reactionaries.

He says that since the world is so great that it must have a God. I wonder if he's ever heard of science and nature?

aww, so afraid of the CC that you have to clarify your usage of "*****." go on, say it. with that type of fear you probably are one of the actual closet sexists here.

on a side note, you should go to state fairs for religious humor. I was recently told that prayer is outlawed in VA (my state's) school, but with no data to back up the outrageous claim. And everyone at those booths informed me that they are praying for me now because I don't believe in god, though I went there to debate issues entirely unrelated to that.

So funny. And I pretty much agree with all your points.

I like this bit "I was asking too many questions". Of course you were not, you were just asking the 'wrong' sort of questions were you not?

This is an example of why I think that young people should be able to vote (well in this present system anyway), after all obviously some of them at least are quite able to think for themselves.
