Just read about the (Socorro Rojo Internaciona/International Red Aid).

Sounds like a great idea, doesn't it?
Should an attempt to restore a similar organization be made?

Sounds no different from a charity. If they want to help set up some kind of network, they should set one up which provides the links and appropriate places to send the money directly to the people in crisis. Fishy things can happen when there are middlemen.

what the league is trying to do, is get like minded groups and individuals together, to get real assistance for disasters that happened to working class folks, Either in monetary or human hands. Its a work in progress

I think such an organization could have and would be great around the world
Helping and showing ppl that communism isn't what its portrayed as
I definitely think that this would help communism's rep around the world, in addition it would definitely raise ppl's conciousness
Would have been great during Katrina...communists coming to the help of all those who were betrayed by the capitalist system and its government
(Though who knows if the US would of let us in, considering they rejected Cuba's offers)
I definitely think that this type of org should be reinstated or formed

A lot of anarchists and other leftists went down immediately afterwards and have been a huge part of those helping Katrina victims.

^Right, although lots of ppl went down for Katrina, some were loosely organized and other groups were small and rather unknown
But can u imagine a large international organization of communists or anarchists, coming in by the hundreds with lots of supplies, and showing all the reality of our individual ideologies?
It'd be awsome

Indeed, I certainly wasn't denouncing the idea. ;)

Can someone explain to me how this is different than the redcross wtih a redstar attached to it. What preventions do you have from pocketing money? Everyone should be suspcious of any group who's role is to handle the money in between doner and reciever. Afterall, they can easily be cut out of the process, but no one seems to be suggesting an organization which does this.

The Common Ground Collective was one of the first organization to help the hurricans victims. It wasn't a charity org, but based on the ideas of solidarity and mutual aid. It was started by New orleans residents. Some RAANistas also went down to NOLA. I went to NO this summer and discovered a small anarchist community as well the Common Ground Collective still going strong.
