View Full Version : Starting new ARA chapter in Phoenix AZ

Hello Comrades,

With the recent anti-immigration fervor and the "minutemen" racists going to the border to "build [20 yard] fences", as well as putting up billboards around Phoenix, Glendale, and surrounding areas advertising their racism complete with websites, I felt it's about time something needs to be done.

So, I am starting an ARA chapter in Phoenix. I've already been in touch with several people from this board who want to be involved in some activism (not specifically ARA, and I haven't spoken with them in a few months), but I'm hopeful that they will be interested in this.

ARA also supports several of our other views which are pro-choice (counterprotesting right-wing wackjobs who "protest" [and sometimes bomb] abortion clinics).
The ARA website is at ARA (http://www.antiracistaction.us/pn/).
Also, there's the ARA-Toronto website (I believe Comrade Marcel heavily involved with it), at ARA-Toronto (http://aratoronto.org).

Since all of the Arizona representatives and senators to the US congress are Republicans supporting fierce anti-immigration policies, and even our Democratic governor (they aren't much better than Republicans, of course), asked for the deployment of the National Guard along our boarder to "defend us" from these Mexican proletarians seeking a better life, the offices of these politicians must be a primary demonstration target for the Phoenix chapter of ARA.

Funny how it's they try to make us fear these people -- they know they need them for the cheap labour that they have been providing to the capitalist pigs in this country for years. It's just an issue to rile while rednecks up. That's why Bush wants the "guest-worker" program or whatever, it lets the rest of his party rant about anti-immigration, but in the end the American capitalist pigs need the cheap labour the immigrants provide.

I'd also like to travel to Yuma where the "minutemen" go near the border of Mexico and build their "fences" (which, as I stated previously, are all of 20 yards long), the next time they do so. Unfortunately, I have a job and can't take off at just any time to drive many hours down to the border.. so something like that would have to be planned in advance.

I also have some of the names of these racist "minutemen" so we could easily demonstrate in front of their homes.

As I said before, I've spoken with one or two people from here privately in the past, who lived in the Phoenix metropolitan area, and were interested in doing some activism.

Also, if you live elsewhere in AZ, such as Tucson, Flagstaff, Prescott, Yuma, etc., you can join as well. Of course we wouldn't expect you to come to every local (Phoenix) demonstration.. it's obviously a long drive from those places. But you're welcome to join, and come to any demonstration or protest event that you can make it to.

One last note:
I haven't setup the Phoenix, AZ chapter yet. I'm interested in seeing how many people here are interested in joining before I do. Even if no one is, I will start the chapter anyway, and proceed to continue seek out potential members. But I wanted to get a feel for how many people are interested, and ARA and RevLeft have very similar views, so it seemed like a good starting point.

If you're interested in joining such a chapter, please either:

I might be moving down to anthem next year (my parents are moving there, and if I decide to go to ASU I'll go, too) and I'd be more than happy to help/join you....

but college is going to be much cheaper here so I'm probably not going to move down there.....

Ahh.. well I hope you do move, but not if it is going to cost you a ton of extra money to pay for college. Thanks for your support anyhow, comrade.

Note: I haven't received any other responses about this (in email, private message, etc.), so if anyone wants to get active, wants to go down to the border and protest against the racist minutemen, and do the same outside the downtown Phoenix offices of Arizona Senators (Jon Kyl & McCain come), as well as House Reps (J.D. Hayworth, probably the worst congressman in America, and looks like a used car salesman), then PM/email me or reply to this post and let's do it. I can't do it by myself, but I can do it with just a few of you!

(Actually, I can do it by myself, but it would turn out much better with more people!)
