I went to see it today. If you want to see a pretty good representation of police and politics in Boston as well as a glimpse into the infamous "Boston-Irish mob" scene , then you would be pretty well served by this film.
Some good twists, some decent acting by Nicolson, Damon (a local boy), Mark Wahlberg (a local boy) etc. Also some nice shots of my beloved city. :D

I strongly advice comrades to check out the original story too.
"The Departed" is a remake of "Infernal Affairs", which is a Hong Kong film:

Finally saw 'The Departed', it was amazingly good and in my opinion, better than 'Infernal Affairs'. You should all go see it!

I saw this completely out of the blue yesterday- and it was really good- dealt with the grey areas between cops and criminals really well. and had a great cast.
The soundtrack was pretty cool too.

I just saw this film the other day, and I must say it's very, very good. Maybe the best film of the year thus far that' I've seen at least. The acting was really top-notch, superb and without giving too much away, it tells the story of police/FBI/government corruption very well and the tangled web between "law and order" and organized crime.
