Remember when Bush said Iran would not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons?
"According to Lieut. Mike Kafka, a spokesman at the headquarters of the Second Fleet, based in Norfolk, Virginia, the Eisenhower Strike Group, bristling with Tomahawk cruise missiles, has received orders to depart the United States in a little over a week. Other official sources in the public affairs office of the Navy Department at the Pentagon confirm that this powerful armada is scheduled to arrive off the coast of Iran on or around October 21. "

yepp go ahead an fuel the terror a little more, smart move.
Also this will not remove anyone from power, since the us will obviously not depart with ground troops. they bomb the nuclear facilities, kill a few thousand people and will head back. which again will only fuel the propaganda mashine of the irani leadership and give them support and justification for any nuclear project.

Maybe you're right. On the other hand Milosevich was unfortunately removed by bombing alone when the dummocraps, led by clintoon, decided they were going to bomb Servia for exercising soverignty over their own country. So it might work.

Yes but Ahmejiad was actually elected democraticly by the Iranian People, which is a large difference.

While this deployment is clearly intended to threaten Iran, the situation hasn't reached a point were Bush could get away with a strike.
However, once the ships are the area, they do a little show of force, then drift off, then show up near N. Korea.
I mean do you really think the Navy would issue a press release if a strike was planned? No, they'd say the ships were going to Iraq if they were really going to Iran.

He was elected democratically as one might expect a communist to be elected democratically in a communist community- all others who oppose the dominate ideology are excluded from office.
Still, its strange seeing a Marxist finding kind words for a theocrat. I guess they both share the same enemy...

Is there even any evidence that Iran is developing nuclear weapons?

To be fair there's no ideal solutions that really spring to mind with regards to Iran because if they are developing a nuclear programme....well, religious nutters with nukes makes me feel very uneasy. But the trouble is USA being an external threat is going to unite moderate Iranians with the religious nutters. The only good solution is for Iranian liberals to topple the theocracy but with USA waving its dick in Irans face right now the ones planning a revolt would just get accused of being Yankee stooges by normal Iranians.
I think leftists shouldn't defend a ridiculously reactionary regime like Iran just because it's under pressure from USA, I mean none of us want to see Israel getting nuked so we should be wary of Iran's intentions as much as we are of the USAs.

Not a shread. Once they (IAEA) thought they found a trace signature of weapons grade components, but they found it was contamination from North Korea's program (Iran purchased equipment from them). Wait... or was that Pakistan... I can't remember. Either way, the IAEA concluded it was a trace on the equipment from the previous owner.

Yeah, we would much rather see Israel nuke Iran, Syria, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia, wouldn't we? Israel is a far greater rogue nuclear threat than Iran would ever be, due to their impunity and the US's protection.

thisguyisatotaljerk: do you have to use weak alterations of words to get your little "kicks"?
and as for you calling Iranians theocrats, don't you think America is drifting closer and closer to theocracy? Not that I have any love for the Iranian gov.

This may be off base, but if the US was planning an attack on Iran, my guess would be that their first move would NOT be to issue a press release to The Nation...

It's rare that I agree with the crap you type, but in this case you hit the nail on the head.
