Notice however, that unlike those regimes which stand in direct conflict with the interests of global capitalism, the corporate plunder and exploitation of the global south and underdeveloped countries and countries which stand in direct opposition to the designs of US imperialism, the Thai military junta has only recieved a very light slap on the wrist from the US State Department.

No sanctions, no cutting off of already established trade links, no travel bans to Thailand for US citizens and no arms embargo (despite the new military junta already engaging in acts of oppression against anti-junta elements in Thai society).

The US government only expressed it's 'opposistion' to the militay coup in words and very weak words at that.

That's all that anyone should demand of them. Demands for sactions are demands for imperialist intervention.

But yes, of course, if this regime was hurting their interests they'd do much more. What they've done here is the minimum they could - their rhetoric about "spreading democracy" would be too obviously hypocritical is they kept aiding this military regime.

Guess that rhetoric is good for something....in the past, Washington probably woulda kept right on sending the military aid.
