A while back I got an album called Sabacalypse, by a Sabac, and last night I finally got around to listening to it. First off, those looking for rigorous political analysis won't find it here (though this isn't my primary metric for a good record). Some lyrics are outright pro-U.S., but close listeners will find surprising references to some fairly obscure revolutionary history, although this seems to come from every MC _except_ Sabac. The r1c1n reference in "P.O.W.'s" was cool, too. There are lots of guests, some of whom I'd never heard before. Technique is on a track, but fuck him- at his show he was telling people to vote for Kerry (I should note that despite IT's pathetic social-dem politics.this is a pretty infectious song, mostly thanks to the catchy vocal loops contributed by Roosevelt Phillips). A Vinny Paz also appears on "Urban Gorillas," with Necro. This is really the hottest number of the set, and the other highlights are the other cuts with Necro and one with Ill Bill; they're harder than anything else Sabac has (he seems over-socialized, alternatingly talking about "staying positive" and how he wants to kill himself- I just don't care about emo shit like that and don't want to listen to it in my music). Some of his solo tracks are pointless, like "Vinyl," about the history of the eponymous medium. And Sabac has all kinds of whack conspiracy theories which he spouts all over the record, sometimes devoting entire tracks, like "Unsolved Mysteries" and "The Scientist" to them. However, if you want Sabacalypse and see me on here just let me know.
"bridges and tunnels
this underground is a murder spree
fuckin wit G
World Trade in the cloud
terror network
I'm still smellin people downtown
r1c1n tear gas
the yin and the yang
get in the fear
10 to 15
then watch the den of heaven appear"
"I'm committed and diligent
equipped with the killin shit
the oppressor's nightmare
if I talk it I'm livin it"
-excerpts from "P.O.W.", Sabac feat. Mr. Hyde, Gortex, and Ill Bill
