Animal Collective is a New York based experimental folk group that is often identified with the noise rock scene, though in reality they take a far more diverse approach than your average noise band such as The Boredoms or Blackdice. Generally rooted in folk, they can be playful, to dark, to dreary. This song is called "We Tigers" and is off of their Sung Tongs album, which I highly recommend you get ahold of, as it is their best release in my opinion. Enjoy.

sorry just my personal opinion.

I listened to it, I thought it was cool.

Vaguely disturbing, reminds me of the first time I heard the Butthole Surfers.

no problem. that's part of trying new things, you loose people along the way sometimes. avant garde art isn't for everyone, stravinsky learned that a century ago.

i'll try to keep the mp3s fairly diverse in the future, not focusing in too much on any one scene such as noise rock. the only common thread is that they will be independent/underground and not commercial radio friendly. :-)

Can others link to songs?

I'll keep it non-commercial as well

if you want. i was planning on throwing up new songs on my own server on a semi-weekly basis from my own collection and posting them each in their own thread.

i would prefer it personally if we steer clear of being necessarily leftist, but instead have the focus be on musicians who try to expand on the boundaries of what we conceive music to be. i was hoping to showcase art, not propaganda buried ehind musical bars.

I totally agree. I understand this your thing and if too many join in then it won't be the same so I'll keep my postings to a minimal.

Would this include minimalist post-rock bands with twenty minutes-long songs?

Sounds like a really cool idea.

The song you plugged was interesting. In my personal opinion it seemed a little "non-organized" though this is probably since I have heard through it only once. I also felt it was a little short and didn't quite see where it was "going".

I liked the hypnotic drumming.

I reckon it would be cool to listen to while high.

Anyways I like most radio unfriendly music, this included. But my favorite is Tool, though I recognize they have made it big but respect them since they still seem down to earth (haha not really, but they haven't really sold out) and only really care about the art.

soo... good idea.

i have a small collection of post-rock, such as explosions in the sky, red sparrowes, this is a process of a still life, etc and i will probably post some of that sometime. i'm quite a fan of the post-metal scene and will definately post some isis or pelican in the future. actually i have a copy of the new isis album that got leaked onto the internet that isn't out for another month. its a very new direction for them, and i kinda like it.

I like Isis as well and I'm seeing Red Sparrowes in a week's time

I say we let FOB into the gang as well, he has reasonably obscure music taste

Other stuff I like is Isis (as well, I'm listening to "In Absence of Truth" it's a good album and of course "Panopticon") The Mars Volta, some freakier stuff like Meshuggah or Lustmord (dark ambient or something like that, mostly random sounds) I'd recommend.

I loved bits of it, but there were some noises in the background that kinda stuffed it.
Same with NIN. Their music is cool but shitty in parts. One of my favourite(sp?) bands.

I love it how they go high.
