This guy is a photo-journalist who has taken some photos of eastern europe, Mali etc. The street kids in the Ukraine and homelessness in Russia are some of the topics. Its worth a look. It can be very upsetting seeing children living like this. The little girl in the Ukraine section who holds a rag to her mouth succumbed to the cold 3 months after the photo was taken.

It's very disturbing to see things like this. Last summer I was in Ukraine, and I never witnessed things like that. I did encounter homeless people, and witness the hardships of people leaving in the villages(ex-collectives.)
Its a very Interesting country though, one minute your in the middle of a bustling city, and then you walk 5 miles and your surrounded by peasents using carts and donkeys. And its easy to see why with the political situations happening there for the last 15 years.

?

He ruined the Soviet Union, remember?
Things may not have been perfect then, but it was better than it is now in the former soviet republics.

Gorbatchov himself hasn't ruined the SU, he changed it so it could finally become what it had to be: a real socialist country. it's the fault of the communist leaders of Eastern Europa themselves. If they just would have supported the people instead of oppressing it things would have been better by now.
