What exactly is it and who was Simon de Bolivar? I often hear this illusive term, so I looked in the learning section; no Bolivar. Can somebody please explain? Cheers x x

Bolivarianism is the belief in creating a unified (socialist) South America.
Simón José Antonio de la Santísima Trinidad Bolívar y Ponte Palacios y Blanco (yea, thats why he gets alled Simon de Bolivar) was an early 19th century south american freedomfighter.

Bolivar himself incidentally wasn't a socialist. (it can be forgiven though, given the time period he was in). But he was a progressive who liberated the Spanish speaking parts oof South America from Spanish rule. That is why people like Chavez admire him so much.
Incidentally it isn't just Socialists who admire him. His face has been on all the Venezualan banknotes since long before Chavez took office.
