Time to have a peek at that other member of Gran Colombia, where presidents are a dime a dozen:

Very interesting stuff.

We shall see what happens, if it intensifies the general revolutionary situation in Venezuela or stagnates it.

Considering what happened in Mexico over the past month with its elections, I suspect the United States will play a role in rigging the upcoming elections in Ecuador as well. After all, another left-leaning progressive in office in Latin America is the last thing the U.S. government wants in its campaign to promote "free trade" and "neoliberalism" in the Western Hemisphere.

True, although Ecuador has considerably less tolerance for US-stooges than Mexico, or anywhere else for that matter. They've had 8 or 9 presidents in the past ten years, and have driven three out of office. So the question is more along the lines of "can the US rig the elections and get away with it?" My answer would be "no".

Look for U.S. interference in Nicaragua as well, where Daniel Ortega of the FSLN leads the polls.
