Hey, Im a junior in high school, and Im thinking of going to UC Riverside. Its one of my serious options. Are there any comrades in that area, like in the LA area? Im a member of the FPM and the CL, so Im interested in keeping it going where I go to college. Id like to collaborate with any comrades that area.

I think CDL said there were some FPM members in SoCal. I'm not sure about any CL members in LA, there's one member I know of in the SoCal area though.

Spreading awareness about communism and certain political issues is what I'm doing right now in my area. I live in a pretty reactionary place so there aren't many radical leftists around (so simply running out and waving communist banners isn't helpful at all). However, I am currently working with the local IWW and other local groups in organizing local protests and spreading awareness for our projects. For example, the Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW (http://www.ciw-online.org/)).

In LA, you can probably be more picky about what groups you want to work with and what issues, etc. For example, there are a bunch of anarchist groups that focus around the Zapatistas and immigrant and jail issues. So it wouldn't be a bad idea to work with them if you can't find actual FPM or CL members in your area to directly work with. There's also a SDS chapter in LA that may be worth your time to check out. This way, you have something to work with and this increases your ability to spread awareness for the groups you're in now.

Hate to break the news, but Riverside is nowhere near LA. It takes over an hour to drive from Riverside to Downtown alone. And that's when traffic isn't too bad. Doesn't make sense to try to do commuter politics, and you don't want to have to drive far to school.
Except for UCSF, all the UC campuses are way, way out in suburbs. UCLA too is a long drive from anywhere except West LA and Santa Monica--and I recommend avoiding anything that might make you have to take the 405 often.

Yeah, Im also interested in the Zapatistas. Hey Tekun, Im looking to study sociology in UCR if I decide to go there. I also know that it has a Marxist Studies program.
Does anyone know what kinds of projects the Zapatistas do in LA or in California?

Great, UCR is a real chill place...we don't have that stupid school pride bullshit, like the shit u get at UCLA or USC
In addition, Riverside is a real underfunded city with lots of problems that need the immediate assistance of conscious individuals like yourself(homelessness, de facto segregation, poverty, HS recruitment,...)
I've been trying to organize programs to feed the homeless and anti-recruitment drives, but most Highlanders (UCR students) commute, so therez not alot of ppl willing to help
I could sure use the help of another FPM member
Regarding Marxist studies...check this (http://www.marxiststudies.ucr.edu/courses/index.html)
Im looking to specialize in Marxian Economics :D
I know MeCha is involved with the Zapatistas, but that's as far as I know

That sounds real good comrade. Riverside sounds like a place that I would like to live in. My decision to go to UCR is not 100% just yet, but its on my top 2 I would say. We should keep in contact, if I end up going to UCR we could realy start some projects. Ive been in contact with the EZLN via email and Im looking to form a Zapatista colective. Maybe we can work with the Zapatistas in the area if I go over there huh? Are you looking to stay in Riverside? Im looking forward to that. thanks comrades

Yeah we (FPM) have quite a few members in CA, though unfortunately none really close enough to each other to form a branch. There are people in the bay, in LA and Valencia. The key is winning other people in your area over and getting the to join / support / work with you. Our Tamil Nadu branch started with just one supporter, and soon was quite large... and the same has happened elsewhere, so it's definitely do able. It just takes some hard work.

Yeah, sometimes I just ask myself what I need to do to get some support you feel? Im gonna start flyering. I printed and corrected some very blalant errors from a document on the FPM's spanish site and I plan to give them out around the immigrant community. I put the email and the mail address on the flyer. Do you think that I should put my contact info?

Hey comrade, how exactly did that member in Tamil Nadu gain his support?

Yeah, stay up...as far as the Zapatistas project, what exactly do u have in mind?
I think that the FPM needs more members in Cali, than the Zapatista movement
But....yeah, what exactly do u mean by creating a Zapatista collective?
I know MeCha has had some connections with the Zapatista movement, but Im not a big fan of MeCha
Regarding Riverside....
Im prolly gonna move to Riverside if I decide to do my grad work at UCR
After 3 yrs of studying and hanging around the Riverside area, it's beginning to grow on me
But yeah, keep in touch

Im not sure about the Zapatistas, but on the FPM im sure. I want to expand it because I believe it is one of the worthwhile and credible socialist movements in the United States. Since I am gonna start diong work clandestinely from my parents in my area, the only thing I can really do is flyer and talk to others.

What do you mean by this?
I currently don't live in the city of Riverside...I live two miles away from UCR, I commute to school
So if I decide to do my grad work at UCR, I'll be moving to Riverside....
Im really feeling the city of Riverside, I like the city alot
