Now I can already see the sea of flames enveloping this thread, but really what do you think of the songs if nothing else?

My mothe and sister have just got back from seeing him in Milton Keynes, and apparently, whilst it was no Nebworth, it was very good. Having seen footage of his live show I don't doubt he can perform, and even though he is only really a frontman, some of the music he has performed I quite liked.

I do think he went downhill after going straight...favourite song is probably life thru a lens.

On the other hand some of it is crap.

Let's look at this guy's motives for doing what he does.

Exploring the world of music.
Negative, he has never ever (as far as I know of) tried anything new in his music, always sticking to the traditional rythms, song construction and melodies.

Influencing the world with a good message.
Nope. The closest thing to any message I've captured is "I am really hot and like to surround myself with naked chicks".

Playing music for a living.
Well he does get his money from singing. But maybe 1/1000 of what he gets he actually deserves, compared to other people's work/money status.

Becoming rich and famous.
Here's the obvious winner. I don't even think he plays in a band (probably stereo playing a cd while he sings on top live) so he obviously don't care too much for the music to be real. Everything about his attitude screams cappie fool. His music is pop and has no intent or story behind it what-so-ever.

I'm sorry to be a "music elitist" (in other words, don't love all the crap capitalist motivated "artists" keeps throwing in your face) but this is the cold truth.

I'm not that big of a fan! :P

Angels is good

The rest is kinda trite pop. Nothing without Guy Chambers, who wrote most of his hits.

Blur are better (seeing as they're an actual band) and have the same kinda Britpop asthetic.

What I think?

Well, im not a huge fan of him. I think he makes great music, but it just doesnt strike my cords if you catch my drift. ;)

Well Blur actually started as a small band on the indie circuit and made them selves what they are through their own talents. I wish the same could be said for Robbie, but it can't.

What does this add or take away from my original post?

Honestly...

Robbie's hits are quiet good, but not all of his average songs are.

If you focus on the harsh realities (as with most of pop with a capital P) it all falls aprt, I don't dispute that, I was refering (as I think I said) to the music attributed to him. I agree that it is sad that he becomes the star whilst the real talent remains backstage.
