wow, that's so not funny. i guess i have to be more self-centered to find it funny. oh, and where's the country of 'Columbia'? Knowledge and intelligence is cool, making fun of people for being knowledgeable and critical thinkers isn't.

Dyst

Well some of them were funny, like the boardgame Anarcho Syndicalism thing.

The others were crapola, sorry rightist weirdoes but you're gonna have to do better.

I thought the guy who made those liked Chomsky? I've seen those comics before on his site and thought some of them were funny.

I thought it was pretty funny to be honest. I don't really think it was particularly anti-left either, I wouldn't be surprised if I was actually made by a leftist; lefties seem to have an ability to self-deprecate that rightists don't have from being anal or whatever.

I fail to see what is "Anti-left" about them.

A couple of them raised a smile on my face, yet it was far from sensational. It may have an anti-left slant, but you have to remember people will appreciate comedy based on their frame of reference, it may seem funny to not care where coffee comes from (as most "normal" people do) but it is a little to close to home for those that give a shit. Really great comedy will be hysterical regardless of its politics (for the most part).

Ricky Gervais' "Politics" was amazing in my oppinion, and although I am an avidly pro-boycott and anti-sweatshop I found the £29 suit sketch side-splittingly funny, if only for the controversy and timing of delivery.

Sorry peeps, but those comics were mediocre at best

I have a sense of humour, even about things close to home, but this was the same quality as Michael Moore or similar...pathertic and appealing to politics before the art of making someone laugh. It all has its place, but those comics, by virtue of their suckiness, will never penetrate anything more than a centralist audience.

Damn. They were funny alright, but however there was a extremely bad point to them. And they were plain stupid.

Someone with a very serious brain tumor wrote that comic. The brain tumor made him/her somewhat of a humorist, but strangely incapable of understanding social questions.

I really liked the second one. Shows how moronic patriots are

The rest of them were pretty lame, but I guess as long as there are stupid people there will be stupid humour.

Anal. It is you left wingers that are anal you guys have no sense humor. [/b]
Yeah, totally - Lenny Bruce is not the least bit humorous and Pat Buchanan is a comic genius. Let's generalize some more why don't we...

Heh, I can just imagine people like CL masturbating behind their desks. "Wow, these cartoons have really gotten those lefties... hahahaha!" But to be honest, I'm not even offended, because I don't get offended easily, and because I don't care about Noam Chomsky(I've never read anything by him). It even fails at being funny. If you think it's funny, it's either because you want yourself to believe that it "really got those lefties", or you've never seen anything really funny.

Please feel free to avoid all posts that contradict this, and simply spam in favour of adding content...sometimes I wonder why I ever bothered with this forum

Seriously though, as I said in my last thread, this is sub par comedy. Unless it was astounding you were never going to get a good response here, so feel free to laugh to yourself, but it is as moronic as some of the lefty rash that is spouted, only a little more accepted in certain circles.

Satire alone is not enough, it must be done well.

In much the same way those comics are exactly awe inspiring.

What was the point of this thread anyway? To try and conclusively show that lefties can't have a laugh? If so mission failed, if not please refer to question one :P

The restricted members here have been using this thread to start pointless spam threads. It peaked during the ebeenezer period.

Yes, I'm sure the most important thing in the world to Noam Chomsky is bonging a few PBRs on a saturday night with a bunch of frat asholes, who have a collective GPA of 1.2. I'm pretty sure the students of MIT don't spend that much time drinking, nor do the proffesors, since its one of the best universities in the world and requires one actually study, unlike Cal State where Capitalist Lawyer went to school.

To try and conclusively show that lefties can't have a laugh?

No, Mr. Sensitive...it was to show how much of a "downer" a far left-winger can be.

Ditto for the far-right, but since I'm not a far-rightey, I don't have to worry about being characterized as one.

Personally the talking about grammar at a party thing struck a little close to home (I'd been doing that yesterday.). I thought most of them were fairly funny, except the first one really.

I want some communist humour. I remember a list of "You may be a Trot if...",
so here's my reply:
You may be a Maoist if... You completely retell what Marx actually wrote to suit your own means and desire for power.

With redstar2000 out with health problems, you guys may be experiencing a shortage of talent in the humor department. He's probably the only one that actually had a sense of humor on this board; which made up for his "doom and gloom" attitude.

How is he, anyway?

You may be a Maoist if... You completely retell what Marx actually wrote to suit your own means and desire for power.

Yeah, that was like, funny.

So, not only is it not 'anti-left,' it is also not 'humour' as it's not funny... change the thread title?

I didn't read the last one, I got too bored. I find lots of things funny, whether they be controversial or not, even jokes that mock a particular characteristic or thing I do/have... but this was terribly unfunny. Perhaps it's the fact I'm from England, the American 'humour' just doesn't do it for me in this case.

I sort of smiled when i read them, i'm no chomsky fan but these makes him out to be probably way more sympatehtic than he really is. I liked the bbq one. "haha, chomsky doesent like america but we violent, fat, beerdrinking people wearing stupid hats do. haha"

edit: dont get me wrong, i'm violent, beerdrinking and wear stupid hats myself.

Have you ever seen any of Pat Buchanan stand up its a riot.
I guess, like most things, comedy is intensely subjective. I just find Patty B to be the least funny, most self-absorbed person on the planet... oh, next to Rosie O'Donnel of course... and possibly Tucker Carlson who sincerely believes himself to be funny.

And Karl Rove's attempts at humour usually make him end up looking like an ass.

They are all the anti-Richard Pryor!!

And who says that leftists are less fun than Righties? I seem to remember the Anti-Fascist punk rock shows and the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender club nights at my school being way more fun than the Young Republican and Future Entreprenuers meetings. ;)

So the critisim of Chomsky is that he doesn't know how to party and have a good time?

Morag
22nd September 2006, 02:45
Shouldn't that criticism be more, "Chomsky has other things on his mind then partying and acting the idiot?"

The board game was funny, I thought. The others, so-so. But I really can't see how they're (their? I hate grammar) anti-left.

You had it right first time, 'they're' is a combination of 'they' and 'are.'

Where there any comedy clubs in russia etc............ where there any joke books for sale of course not proves my point that you reds have no sense of humor.
Well you can't spell 'were' so I therefore assume that all non-communists cannot spell properly. I'm sure you'll find that a perfectly acceptable statement, seeing as I'm using the very same logic you did by saying that there were no comedy clubs/books in Russia.
And where is your source for this? And even if there were no comedy clubs, how would that prove anything? Were there comedy clubs and books under the Tsar?

.....lighten up, ok.

It's just a charicture of the attitude of a typical leftist. I'm sure none of you here would give an anti-USA rant to someone drinking coffee. I realize that he's not the best example of a whatever it is that you guys advocate, but he's really the only far-lefty that I know of that actually gets attention and is somewhat in the spotlight. (I'd imagine that some of you here would describe him as "too conservative for your views")

If I offended you so bad, then how come none of you posted any satircal pieces that poke fun of the right-wing?

I'm sure you can find lots of those on the net?

I was actually hoping that there would be some jokes about leftists in here. Instead, I get treated to a lame attack on a lame "leftist".

But, CapLaw, you should realize that those who are on or from the left know the best "anti-left" jokes. You can start with basic categories, like "How many leftists...". For example:

Q: How many leftists does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

A: Six -- one to screw it in and five to chant "Down with darkness!"
