Ok, I go to a private school(My parents and grandparents are forcing me to) in a city of about 100,000. I am trying to start an SDS Chapter at my school and the public school, with the help of an already existing SDS chapter in Columbus, Ohio and I need a way of convincing my Principal it would be benificial or just to convince her into allowing me to start one at my school. If you have any tips, or something you can write for me to convince her, that would be awesome, as I am terrible at writing convincive writting or persuading people in any way. SO any help would be awesome.

Friend and Comrade,
Ben.

You only need school approval if it's an official school club. I don't think actual SDS chapters are officially recognized by their respective schools though it would be better if an actual member clarified this.

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking.

Are you having trouble starting one? Is your principal not allowing you to have one?

Hmm...tell her that SDS promotes social justice and awareness maybe?

Thats what I was thinking about telling her, however I need like a well thought out document to give her explaining the benifits and such, and how SDS promits social as well as political awareness. ANd to be quite honest, I dont know how to write a good persuasive paper. thats why I need help. :D

SDS? As in Students for a Democratic Society? I thought they ceased to exsist in the 60s 70s and merged with the RCP or something?

The original SDS collapsed but has recently started up again.

I still don't understand why you want it to be school approved and official? Is this how other SDS chapters do it?

Well, private schools are different from public schools. I think that most SDS high school chapters are school sanctioned, which means they meet on school time and on school property. This might not be the best route and it might not let you be as radical and militant as possible, but it can be one of the easier ways of gaining visibility and support.

but it can be one of the easier ways of gaining visibility and support.
You can do that without becoming an official school group though.

Of course, you could just make it a "group", that way you only need to find a sponsor for it rather than go through all that bureaucratic mess.

Hmm...it looks like there was an infoshop called the Ramlow Infoshop back in the late 90's but it no longer exists.

Colombus aka Arawak City used to have a RAAN collective and a lot more radical activity, I'm not sure where it's all gone now.

ComradeBen

Well, if you find out anything, tell me.

RAAN can still be contacted in Columbus here: hpwombat[nospam]@yahoo.com

The original RAAN Fraction fell apart a few years ago but there are still a handful of people in the area who are trying to re-constitute a network presence.

It seems that there were some radical leftist groups until around 2004.

Though there is growing interest.

Hey, Wombat here, I live in Columbus. You seem to mention the SDS people...are they the OSU SDS? They are cool kids and some are in the Arawak City Collective that just reorganized. Message or email me hpwombat (at) yahoo.com ...unless you are one of those that already have, then all I can say is hello. We should arrange a meetup so I can introduce you to Arawak City.
