In the past week or so I've started to listen to The Decemberists, Fiery Furnaces, Clann Zú, Spoon and Defiance, Ohio

Clann Zú & Defiance were because of this board so thanks

So yeah...useless thread...

Clann Zú is pretty good, i can't remember how i got that, where on the board did you get turned on to them? Coz i cant remember how or where i got that Clann Zú from :P

Spoon and the Decemberists aren't very indie anymore.

Indie still means that they have an independant record label, right?

I fail to see how this is one category of music in itself. Though I have listened too little to this type of music. Have I misunderstood what indie is?

Not necessarily. The term 'indie rock' has come to define a broad style and sound. It is quite difficult to explain, but thankfully someone already has: -

Spoon and the Decemberists aren't very indie anymore.
Here we apply the universal theorem of 'OC' - if a band has a song that plays while a) Ryan kisses Marissa, b) the gang are in the club or c) when Seth looks wistfully at Summer they have crossed the threshold from indie to commercial.

Still briliant music though

Yeah, I especially like the Decemberists. If I ever had an affinity group I would name it the Youth and Beauty Brigade.
