Are they for real?
WARSAW (Reuters) - Polish admirers of Ronald Reagan plan to raise a statue of the former U.S president in Warsaw, where he is revered for his role in the downfall of communism in Europe.

....also consider polands history.
The Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact saw "stalinist russia" invade their country in an alliance with the nazis (that in itself would justify some serious negative feeling). And then towards the end of the war, stalinist russia "liberated" poland from nazi rule and granted them englightened stalinist rule.
To be surprised at polish negative feelings toward russia/sovietism (and thus positive feelings toward the enemy of their enemy; america), is a bit like being surprised that iraq's tend to dislike the coalition.

I'd like to see Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua put up some statues dedicated to all the people that were murdered in central america due to Reagan's policies.

He's not talking about during Arbenez. He's talking about during the revolution that started in 1960 and ended in 96 (with the URNG and the Guatemala government), and the U.S. sponsored genocide that took place.

This is just another spectacular objectification of the growth of reactionary capitalism in Poland. Poland, like many ex-Warsaw Pact states, is going through a phase that combines primitive accumulation of capital and the enormous profits of imperialist capitalism. This combination combines the necessity of reactionary ideas in the oppression of marginalized elements—like the white man’s ‘burden’ towards the Native Americans—and the ability of corporations to absorb the most culturally backward elements into their overall economic programme.

I'm pretty sure that Poland is a very Catholic nation as well.

its an issue of human nature, to say the least. you normally look up to the person who aids in 'liberating' you from a bad situation, even if that person is as bad or worse.

Revolutions have happened in countries that were just as religious.

I'm sure Reagen took down the Iron Curtain all by himself.
Anyways, a lot of people came out in their support for the late Pope as well who was a similar figurehead to Reagen.

No wonder, seeing how the statue is being funded by Poles in the US, Canada, and Poland...
I doubt that the common Polish worker would agree to use the funds to erect some lousy statue, I think they're more concerned with lowering the unemployment rate, which is among the highest in Europe (18.2%)

I really hope that this statue gets toppled by an angry mob and put on international television while its being dragged through the streets. Oh, and I hope that this event isnt organized by the US army this time...
