You can't have your own views as to what are the main tenents of communism. Otherwise, there could not be any idealogies as they would mean completely different things to different people.

When you open something like communism to interpretation then you're going to get some major ideological battles (more severe than the ones we have now).

not just whatever comes out of ol' websters
It's from Ol' Marx.

Engels - Principles of Communism (http://marxists.org/archive/marx/works/1847/11/prin-com.htm)

By the way, controversy is good...it means we're thinking. Baseless attacks are bad, which unfortunately is what controversy frequently ends up with on this site.

You'll get different answers probably, but this is also good. That way you can decide for yourself who you think is right.

Don't delete this thread.

There's no reason to. It's just that the definition of communism is pretty solid. The main controversy is how to achieve communism; if we were unsure about what we wanted to achieve then that would pose a major problem right there.

Okay lets say you, me and some other dude work on this other guy's land for farming, and we split the land equally. This called a commune.

We each work on our land, farm our crops, go to market, sell them.
Now capitalism is we'd take the money we got from market, each of us, and that's our profit. This idea is of course very flawed. What if, theoretically, i make watermelons and you make corn. I might sell more crops then u because i had better quality food, and this usually never works out to go non-violently.

Communism is we go back to the land and give all of our profits to the guy who owns the land and he splits it up fairly among us. Nobody above anybody. No coporate takeovers. No classes. Nothing Perfect ( in some cases)

Does that help you out?

i agree with janus though the problems with creating communisyt countries are

A. Revolution- this is getting harder now because nobody can agree on how to do things, or how to throw it, or when, etc. etc. plus you need some good support these days with the armies and stuff.

B. Image-I'm a sophmore in highschool and ill tell you.
Our schools/teachers/texbooks paint a bad picture of communism, and we have lost support of future generations though.

C.Spread- communist states will have trouble trading with democratic states and such, so for communism to work, alot of countries have to be communist.

This is why our comrades in the Soviet Union failed to pass communism sucessfully, because it ran out of communist brothers and had a bad image of communism.

'Communist state' is an oxymoron.

Perhaps you've never heard of a man named Joseph Stalin?

Please, don't say anything if you can't teach the right stuff.

You don't sell anything in communism since there is no money. It's a free access system.

No one owns the land and there is no "profit" that you can make. This is how people accumulate capital and how capitalism started in the first place.
