I'm often given the argument that with Capitalism people have the ability to start a business and create jobs for people and that thise would not be possible under Socialism or something to this effect

Any responses?

You have to have substantial capital to start a business. Most people don't have this. Even with capital most businesses fail within the first 5 years.

This wouldn't be possible under socialism? Of course it wouldn't. People need to get the idea out of their heads that capitalist and socialist production are related. Capitalist production works around the "market". Socialized production works around need. If there is a necessity for a certain product then it is produced. Work is divided equally and is not related to how well you survive or what you own.

See that's good but I needs a snappy, one-size-fits-all answer

In that case, unless your talking to a working class person the phrase "fuck off" will do just fine. :P

Lets not forget workers co ops/collectives they can be considered socialists. Personally I would rather have worker runned and owned companies then state owned and runned because that way it gives the workers/people more control over the means of production allowing the government to take a step back and over a period of time hand over all control to the people.

As long as the state/government tries to hold onto power and the means of production and property instead of gradually handing it over to the people true communism will never be acheived.

In socialism, people can start a joint venture to create or fix things. They can join work places that already do something. The difference between capitalism and socialism is that in socialism, there will not be a business (as such).

Besides which, another difference between capitalism and a truly socialist society with an abundance of resources (such as now, the abundance of resources, not the socialist bit), people will not have to work!

One of the things about socialism, it will get rid of a lot of unnecessary jobs, thus enabling those who are doing jobs which are useful to have more time off.

Fuck work and fuck capitalism too!

People who argue that capitalism produces jobs and that socialism does not, do not understand socialism.

When a capitalist uses his capital for a venture that will 'create jobs' he/she is just using the accumulated surpluss value to enable themselves to exploit present day workers for more profit. Capitalist's don't go about creating jobs, they go about investing capital to get richer of the back of a new bunch of workers. They need the workers labour to produce the wealth and make them rich.

Socialism will produce socially, pragmatically without what is produced being decided by what is merely profitable to the ruling class.

Snappy answers, hm? How about:
- In capitalism, the direction of the economy is decided by those with money. In socialism, new ventures are entered into on a democratic basis.

Under communism, people will become ‘entrepeneurs’ out of their own creative desire. If there is a need or desire for something, it will exist!

OR they do understand very well, but still repeat the lies to order to discredit it.
