I am having a debate on the forum, with some guy and he believes that America represents 'true freedom and democracy'. I said if that is true, then why did they fund Pinochet and Batista....

Can someone help me reply to the below, I mean I could reply to it but I'm not knowledgable on Pinochet or the circumstances there and I was hoping some comrades could disect the post and 0wn it for me..

I like the example that given by "Noah" "If America, really did believe in 'freedom' it wouldn't have funded dictators like Pinochet or Batista or Saddam even..", I see the other face of this fact. I believe that for example there were two faild coups against Pinochet, both of them were funded by Sovit Union and Cuba. But do you know that the regiume finally changed by democratic election and the socialist take the leadership again?? Why is that, its because USA believe in freedom and democracy, and when they see it is the time that the people of Chile ready to change they allowed them to change, without lossing their bussiness there. Batista was ousted in what is known as the Cuban Revolution, and we all know what is the faith of Cubaean people under the dictator Fidel Castro.

I didnt really read the quote word for word but is he negating the fact that the US intervened into democratic countries and either directly or indirecty removed the elected official in power to replace them with right-wing dictators?

Perhaps he should google Victor Jara and thousands of other truly freedom-loving people who were murdered because of what the US helped cause and see how much freedom they have since they've been murdered by the state.
