I listen to some jazz (especially fusion jazz) like Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Frank Zappa and Mahavishnu Orchestra but I haven´t heard much funk to be honest.

I'm pretty fanatical about Jazz, and Jazz-derived musical forms (such as European Free Improvisation, basically improvised music stripped of "defining" Jazz elements like blue notes and syncopation, while still retaining the basic instrumental set-up of bass, trap-drums, reeds and brass and/or piano).
In addition to all the "classic" greats like Ellington, Miles Davis (especially the second quintet with Shorter, Hancock, Carter, and Williams!), Coltrane, Bird & Diz, etc., I also like currently performing American Jazz artists like the bassist William Parker, the drummer Hamid Drake, L.A. reedsman Vinny Golia, Chicago reedsman Ken Vandermark, and legendary pianist Cecil Taylor.
Some of the european free improv/jazz performers I admire are the pianist Alexander von Schlippenbach, tenor sax/clarinet player Peter Brötzmann, and the drummers Paul Lovens and Paul Lytton.
At the extreme non-Jazz end of the improvised music spectrum, I like the English free-improvisation trio AMM (now reduced to a duo after the departure of their guitarist Keith Rowe. pianist John Tilbury and drummer Eddie Prevost are the remaining members) and trumpeters like Axel Dörner or the English saxophone player John Butcher.
