today mexico's independance day?

Is today mexico's independance day? There was a kid at my school wearin a mexican flag and he said it was, but I thought it was cinco de mayo lol can someone explain?

Mexican independence day is Sept 16

Cinco de Mayo is when the Mexican forces defeated the French occupiers back in the 1860's



Im in Los Angeles, so all the parties and celebrations (and flags), better yet all the intense nationalism is getting on my nerves :angry:
