On September 7 and 8, U.S. occupation troops raided the head office of the IFC in Baghdad. The raid came after a number of IFC public actions against the occupation. The troops were outraged when they saw the anti-occupation banners and posters showing international solidarity with the Iraqi people hanging on the walls. They reacted aggressively and ruined all internal doors, destroyed furniture, and confiscated most of the office property.

Fearful of growing influence of the IFC, the U.S. administration in Iraq are resorting to violence and force to silence our voice. Since its inception in March 2005, the IFC has been the main advocate of an end to the occupation and promoter of a non-religious, non-ethnic, progressive and secular Iraq.

With support from all sections of Iraqi society, including labor, women, youth and the secular movements, the U.S. administration find themselves unable to deal with this growing force.

The Abroad Executive Committee of the IFC condemns these brutal acts, and calls upon all concerned people, supporters of Iraq Freedom Congress and the Iraqi people to express their disgust at the U.S. action against the IFC and to show their solidarity with the people of Iraq and the IFC.

Demonstrate Sunday, September 24, 2006, at U.S. government facilities -- embassies, consulates and federal buildings (in the U.S.) to demand U.S. hands off the IFC and for an immediate end to the occupation!

The Communist League, as supporters of the IFC, joins the call of the Abroad Executive Committee to organize protests and demonstrations in front of U.S. government offices and buildings on Sept. 24, and appeal to all those who oppose the U.S. occupation and wish to see an independent, democratic, secular and non-sectarian Iraq to organize and protest on that day.

As they are organized, a list of times and places will be posted here. If you organize, or are helping to organize, a local event in conjunction with this day of action, please post it here.
