Hehe...
That was unexpected.
Both 9/11's were tragic, in 1973 and 2001.

No, only the 1973 one was tragic.

When I saw the title to this thread I was going to reply a wise-ass coment like, "Where's the next Dairy Queen?"
But then you mentioned Chile's 9-11 and I'm like happy someone remembered Chile in the midst of the brouhahaha generated by Amerika's anniversary of their blowback.

So you don't see killing innocent civilians as tragic?
THAT itself is tragic.

Yes he did. He's also an AIM wannabe.
In what sense was he an AIM "wannabee". I'm familiar with some of the controversy around Churchill and know that due to the splits in AIM there's a fair few who don't have that much time for him, but as far as I know none have called him that.

Dammit i was gonna try that, ah well, well done getting in first. But yes both were tragic, however the crimes of US imperialism go forgotten.

While the disgraceful acts unleashed upon on the Chilean people during Pinochet's rule should never be forgotten, I think America's 9/11 will forever be remembered more than Chile's.
As some on here have already pointed out, workers died and fearce nationalism and xenophobia developed as a result. I'm sure those who died would never have wanted their deaths to be exploited in the way they have. We should mourn those workers who died that day.

Allende's government in Chile certainly had the potential of creating a better society in South America
Their influence could have created a wave of socialism, that could have revolutionized and improved the lives of millions of ppl across Central and South America
Its a pity that it didn't materialize
Regarding the events of NY, although the majority of those who perished were capitalists who benefitted from the exploitation and economic imperialism of the US
There was also a large number of ppl on the towers, planes, and streets that were blue collar workers (maintenance workers, cooks, waiters, security guards,...) that also perished, and whose death we should respect
Although the majority of those that died were high income boojees, as humans, we should refrain from ridiculing or directing sarcasm towards them
What happened to them is tragic, but like I always say...when your profession exploits and takes advantage of those on the bottom of the socio-economic spectrum, sooner or later those at the bottom are gonna push back and fight
And although the perpetrators of the attacks were religious fanatics who don't really represent the working class, they dealt a significant blow to the capitalist economy of the US
Nevertheless, we shouldn't make fun of the attacks, we should use them to recruit and garner support for a socialist revolution (IMO socialist)

NOTE: please keep this thread on matters of 11/9/73, there are a bunch of threads around on 11/9/01 and posts from this thread keep having to be split off into them.
for people who complain about how the usa has it's fingers in everything and omg all the news does is talk about americans what about the millions starving in the rest of the world???, you guys really are exhibiting those traits yourself.. <_<

I hear you comrade!
On the stadion of santiago artists, teachers, revolutionaries of all sorts were brutally slagtered and killed.
One man vitnessed the event (dont know if you have heard the story) But in its memory here goes:
One man stands vitnessing this, standing with his guitar waiting to be killed.
He plays, and sings about what is happening, about the screaming whomen, children and husbands, about the soliders crushing them.
A solider approaches him, takes his guitar.
But he is not to be stopped, and continues his song about the awful things taking place.
Two soliders approaches him, tells him to shut up. And starts beating his teath out.
The comrade is not to be stopped, he starts to whistle the melody of his song.
A solider raises his rifle, and shoots him.
There ends his life.
They shoot him, but could not kill his songs. That date, his songs are played all around the world. So i sugest NWOG that you add Victor Jara's music to your memorying of Chiles people.
