reguarding the new movie she starts in called Bordertown that's base on the true story of the over 400 women who were sweatshop workers in the border city of Juarez, mexico that have been visiously murder and raped. "J.LO" says

"Director Gregory Nava) came to me and explained what was going on down in Juarez. Once I knew, I felt like I had to be involved. It became something I had to do - to bring this issue to the surface"
Jennifer Lopez

yeah *****. make money out it. i doubt the families will see any money from the profits this film makes and justice will not be served for these people.

fuck the greedy film industry!

At least she's bringing this to attention through the mass media which is the most this cappie film star can do being that she's a cappie you don't really expect her to be an armed guerilla toughing it out in the jungle do you? She's at least better than Lynddie England. Remember that *****?

Sure they are bringing some media attention to the situation but the fact that she is getting money from this while, I bet, the workers who actually lived the story gets jack squat. It is just fucked up.

Sounds like an independant film, so there won't be much money made, anyway. It's an important issue, and as it turns out, attention to an issue is often just as important as money. If she feels it's an important role, why can't she do something to bring attention to it? We don't know what her wage will be, what the earnings from the film will be, or anything like that, but we do know that if she's in the film, people will go and they'll learn something. (hopefully)

reification -- the act of converting people, abstract concepts, etc into things, ie commodities.

That's what's going on here.

dunno about her personal motives, but seriously, who cares?

publicity for the juarez killings is good.

j-lo = lots of publicity + audience that otherwise most likely wouldn´t ever hear about it = teenage popfan girlies start protesting sweatshops = new market niche gets discovered = new leftist boygroup created ( anti-alienation asshakers) = revolutionary ideas spread like wildfire = teenage popfan girlies start massive decentralised violent actions throughout the US (leading slogan: take that) = government gets thrown over, j-lo´s movie earnings get seized = good stuff

what´s not to like?

i´m serious bout line two though

Calm down.
They're just making a movie about something bad that happened. And since we live under capitalism, capitalist means are used to make this movie.

yeah well that too. but this particular even is personal to me. more personal that the other injustices going on in the world. I knew one of the girls who was killed. she rented a bedroom from my aunt in Juarez and she was just barely 18. wanted to save money to come to the U.S. and work.

I been trying to do songs and get artist to talk about this but so far i have no been sucessful. Im glad that this issue will be raise up through a movie. it will make people know about it. yet is still a movie and it wont do much but make them money.

i doubt anyone in the teather will raise up and push the companies who own the sweatshops to start an investigation. or give the familes some sort of help and comfort.

RPAS: "...she rented a bedroom from my aunt..."

So you're mad that your family isn't making money from exploiting her, and someone else is.

I bet, the workers who actually lived the story gets jack squat. It is just fucked up.

well, it's all speculation. and unless someone researches this, getting angry about it does nothing.

If you want to garner interest for the people involved, go and actively protest it.

and if I can make my own specualtion, in order to get stories straight, rights have to be purchsed from people involed. unless you want to make up the facts..which is a possibility.

the other thing.....

we live in a capitalist society so people are going to do this. Jenifer Lopez isn't the cause of this problem. she didn't perpetrate the crime. she's an actress. and even moreso than that,,, is she the executive producer and the screenwriter?

if not then why is it jennifer lopez's fault?

I can respect you are angry, but use your anger for something productive. lashing out at a paid actress is not productive. the film company is who pays her. and reaps the rewards if this film takes off.

Could it actually be a possibility she cares about this story?

but in closing, hot button topics on independant film contracts to not spell big time box office success....

she can stand up and say something or do something about it. she has money she has a voice in the media. just because she is a part of the chain and not the main person or whatever does not mean she dont have... fuck it lol

i'll talk about it later LOL..
\
but you know what i mean right? just because "you are just an actress" dont mean you cant make a change, or driver others, inspire others.

I understand where you're coming from here RPAS but you've got to realise that publicity relating to Juarez should be a good thing, regardless of J-Lo's motivations

Would it make you feel better if it was some unknown actress?

Actually in this case since it is "j-lo" it will bring some attention.

But, whatever I couldn't care less. All I've got to say is....

Burrito. Taco taco. Burrito. Taco. Taco taco.
Don't think just because I got a lot of money,
I'll give you taco-flavored kisses, honey.
Fulfill all your wishes
with my taco-flavored kisses.

Taco taco. Burrito burrito. Taco taco.
Fulfill all your wishes
with my taco-flavored kisses! Taco taco.

Taco taco. Burrito burrito. Taco taco.

Baby, let's make a run for the border,
I've got a hunger only tacos can stop.
I know exactly what I'll order
three tacos, two tostadas, and a soda pop.

I need to make a run for the border.
If you pay, I'll take off my top.
Do you remember what I want to order?
Three tacos, two tostadas, and a soda pop.

Yea-ah, and don't forget the hot sauce, chulo.

Ooh, baby, baby, can I have your tacos?
Those tacos sure look good!
I'm just Jenny from the hood!
