I often struggle to find political theory relevant to my life. Much of it is either outdated, or focuses on issues that don't affect me at all. Now, I found a good essay by one of the better political theorists, Raoul Vaneigem. It was written in 1995, so much of it is relevant today.

Now, I bring you an essay, A Warning to Students of All Ages. This great writing critiques schooling and provides hope to people everywhere striving for youth liberation.

If anyone would like to discuss it that would be just great!

:) Nice, I didn't know that Vaneigem wrote an essay in the ninetees. I remember he had an interview and said that an effective method of striking, especially for people such as nurses, would be doing the work but do not accept payments by patients.

Anyway, I will look into to Vaneigem's new text as soon as I can.

Wow, I was really sad when this essay ended, not because the topic wasn't wrapped up or addressed, but because I wanted to learn more. I couldn't stop reading it. It actually had many similarities to Crimethinc, that was one of the more interesting things about it. The anaylsis was similar to Crimethinc, but the solution was different. Crimethinc advocates dropping our, Vaneigem advocates the occupation of schools and their transformation into beautiful buildings that stimulate desire, passion, and creativity.

If every student read this and understood it's main points, then we would have a revolution on our hands.

What grade are you in of you are still in school?
Year 11.

Yeah, it may have lots of "big words", but as long as you understand the main point.

I think he may have written a few other essays recently, but there all in French.

That text is interesting FoB. I too am a student and have some readings you and others may find interesting, they're by Harry Cleaver, the writer of Reading Capital Politically. They are very materialist as well.

On Schoolwork and the Struggle Against It: http://www.eco.utexas.edu/~hmcleave/OnSchoolwork200606.pdf

Worried About Grade Inflation? Abolish Grades!: http://www.eco.utexas.edu/~hmcleave/inflation.html

I'm interested in what everyone thinks of these readings, I've personally found them very insightful and eye-opening in terms of understanding how capitalism works on a very societal level in school. The texts tend to refer to American collegiate structures but I'm sure the overall themes will be applicable to all students.

You only raise their ratings (if we're referring to Neilsen ratings) if you have a Neilsen box on your TV. They choose a bunch of samples that are supposed to represent the country and then tabulate the ratings of those samples only, so if you're not one of those samples it's not really measured what you watch or don't watch.
