i live in southern california. for the past 6 months I've applied my self to leftist theories and have been reading marx's works and now feel confident that at the age of 25 years old I am pretty much a changed man in my views. Next step is too find more people like me. theres a lot of liberals here in california and people who seek a social democracy. i think thats a load of crap. im in it ALL THE WAY!

what are the best ways to find socialist or communist in a community? I want to start interacting and get involved!

Get involved in social justice organizations and work for change that will help people in a direct way. You achieve more results working in a big tent.

You could put a personal advertisement in the newspaper to find the *perfect* Marxist companion.

Tommie has the best idea - get involved in your community. Don't just look for 'Marxist meetings' - just look for alternative events. Get involved in a community garden, look out for speeches and different events at the University there.

I think there will be a professor here from SoCal speaking on Political Theology and Love this week. Look for those type of events and just mingle when you get there.

Join a party or youth organization. I know that Socailist Action/Youth for Socailist Action is stationed San Francisco.

Depending on how progressive your community is, look for classes or meetings of any kind of radical group. I'm joining a class offered to the community at my college called Anarchist Anthropology. I am really excited!

I have to agree with the people who said to join social justice organisations.

Even if there are not communist or anarchist organisations around that you know of, by getting involved in the activist scene a few things will happen.

1) You will met interesting people, some of who might share your political beliefs or who might be convinced by you. (Start your own organisation in this case.)

2) You will find out about other organisations that exist in your local community. You could join them.

3) You might met some cool people and have sex with them. Hasn't happened to me yet, but I have hopes for some people I know (you know who you are :P).

Another way to meet comrades, if you attend a university or other higher education place, put an ad in the local newsletter or bulletin for leftists to meet you, or look for a leftist organisation at the place. Do this even if you are not a student.

The Socialist Workers Party has a branch in L.A.....
CALIFORNIA:
Los Angeles: 4229 S. Central Ave. Zip: 90011. Tel: (323) 233-9372.
E-mail: [email protected]

If you're in a different part of So-cal you could contact 'em anyway, they might know people in your area or send a team to the area sometimes.

If you want a general idea of what the SWP stands for and does, check out the link to the Militant in my sig.

I also agree with those who've suggested getting involved with whatever's going on in your area, whether or not you succeed in meeting up with a communist organization. Increases your chance of running into one too, especially at the different immigrants' rights rallies and so forth.

Also, don't necessarily join the first thing you meet; get an idea for what they do (by observing it yourself); in the process you'll probably run into other groups and see what they do also....
