Hey

This Wednesday 13th September at UTS AUJS (Australian Union of Jewish Students) is putting on an event called Israel Day. It goes from 11am - 4pm and involves a BBQ, music, and other celebration to mark support for Israel. AUJS in the past has, and still does raises money to support the IDF (Israeli Defence Force) and supports the Israeli state and its actions fully. This gather of Zionists should be disrupted in some way or another, to show that the history of Israel is one of genocide, occupation and colonisation.

Some Palestinian and Lebanese activists are already talking about actions to do on the day. It would be good show such Pro-Israel groups that their ideas are fucked and any group who tries to justify ethnic cleansing, genocide and fascist-like occupation will be met with hostility and challenged.

If you are interested in doing stuff (creative, direct action, handing out information, whatever) meet at the UTS students Association at 1pm on Tuesday 12 SEPT.

Otherwise come to the action or whatever we want to happen on:

What you must also do when doing something at this event is too make it clear that you oppose all "ethnic cleansing, genocide and fascist-like occupation". After all you don't just oppose Israel, but also any Syrian or Iranian or Turkish (for example) ethnic cleansing and genocide.

I am sure you could come up with banners that say something along the lines of "self determination for all", and when talking to the media (if you do) make sure you mention that "not just Israel, but all oppressive regimes are the enemy". Or something.

well of course we oppose all forms of oppression and we should make that clear - but it's also important to have a clear focus and not turn it into a free-for-all (as all the socialists seem to do, with every single freakin action we have!)

cos otherwise it just gets confused and its gives the media a chance to make us look like we don't really know what we're talking about or why we're there and we're just "anti-globalisation" :P

but point noted, and i will bring it up at the meeting on tuesday :)

coupla ideas - having a die-in
setting up 'checkpoints' and stopping people from getting access to it
setting up a stall with a sign: "raising money for palestinian suicide bombers"

:D

my friend who's the president of the muslim students association at my uni got called up by the pres of AUJS asking if she could make a presence there etc.

she didn't realise it was for israel day (cos they framed it as a 'jewish day' thingy, which is what they ALWAYS do and is so fucking dodgy - it's to make us look anti-semitic  ) and she almost said yes
