View Full Version : School radio station
superiority
9th September 2006, 12:12
The Media Studies teacher at my high school is organising a radio station, and I have been granted the opportunity to corrupt the hearts and minds of my schoolmates via my own show. Does anyone have suggestions as to songs/bands I should play? I have a few names in mind already, but any and all suggestions are appreciated.

The idea is to play music with revolutionary lyrical content, rather than be confined to a single genre.

Interestingly enough I was just given a slot on a local radio station with a mate. He's into metal and I'm into "alternative" but I'm gonna slip in a few Commie tracks
Viva La Quinta Brigada - Christy Moore
Worker's Song - Dropkick Murphys
Bandiera Rossa - Random Italian Punx Whose Name I Can't Remember
The Masses Against The Classes - Manic Street Preachers
You probably wont be allowed to play much rap because of the swearing but if you are I suggest 'Fat Cats & Bigga Fish' by The Coup
I'm burning about a hundred songs onto CDs but that's a few suggestions

Blood for Blood mofocker! some Madball would be good as well.
Fuck the Police by NWA would be pretty kick ass. Cockney rejects (Are You Ready To Ruck? or OI OI OI would be good) and Angelic Upstarts (Last Night Another Soldier and Guns For The Afgan Rebels) are tops oi punk.

Well, if your mate he´s into metal, you could try slipping some grindcore songs.

I'd recommend some Asian Dub Foundation, MIA and hmm- I'd say The Haunted but they're not very radio-friendly. Who Will Decide is a great song though. :D
Muse's later stuff is quite political, if oblique. Oh and various Rammstein tracks with vague leftyish allusions.
There's more but I'm drunk and tired. :)

I'm actually doing the same thing soon (knock on wood that I get the slot), but it will be mostly talk. I'm definitely thinking of using a Defiance, Ohio song or two for my intros and breaks and whatnot. Marley as well.

Bob Marley wasn't a leftist.
Anyways, there are few serious leftist musicians. The [International] Noise Conspiracy, perhaps. Randy, maybe. Some rappers which have already been mentioned. Langston Hughes has been set to music by Taj Mahal. Bob Dylan. Assorted songs by John Lennon, even though he wasn't a serious leftist. Victor Jara, Violetta Parra, Inti Illimani, etc. although that's in Spanish. Play The Internationale frequently. And if you're already acting under the pretense of corrupting their minds, definitely include some Castro speeches. Who gives a fuck if they're in Spanish. His fiery rhetoric transcends language.
Or just translate them yourself.
edit: new idea! Interview right-wing students, and then own them in a debate on the air.

You have got to be kidding me! That's perhaps the boringist (sic?) thing to put on the radio. Some of his speeches run up to +6 hours!

It's six hours of glorifying the proletariat, but it's coming from someone who's not a proletarian at all.
