Well today, someone I knew, kept saying things were "gay." it got to the point to the point where it was becoming offensive, and I was going to say something *i ususally try to keep my mouth shut.* now this kid was mormon by the way. I then said that was really homophobic of him, to say that. That it was no different then me saying something was "black" or "mormon" Then me and him got into an arguement over homosexuality. He kept calling me a homosexual, because I supported gay rights. group of kids who were also mormon joined in on the fight against me. They could not differentiate that it doesn't make you "gay" to support gay rights.

Then this boy just flat out said "I hate homosexuals" I was horrified. I knew that the mormons were not fans of homosexuality like other religions. But to me, they were in no position to be making fun of anyone. Their group has been ostracised for years and years. In the 1800's they were tarred and feathered, kicked out of town, and often times murdered.

I don't mean to make it sound like all mormons are like this, but it angers me that they can hate a group of people, after what their group has gone through. I use to have some respect for them. I hit a kid once for making fun of a mormon kid. Are they all like this, because I thought it was just this one kid that was being ignorant, but it was the whole group who were just as equally ignorant.

I used to go out with a girl who was Mormon, actually. She was fairly tollerant, so I wouldn't say all Mormons are fucking reactionary pricks. But the fact is, most of them are. Next time I suggest you call him a peodophile. Mormons are notorious for transporting young girls all over North America to be "married" to old men. Honestly, when someone doesn't respond to logic, that's all you can do.

well, I think thats for the sect that broke away from mormanism, to practice polygamy. They aren't really mormons

Both my parents are hard-core mormons and up until about a year ago I went to their church EVERY SUNDAY! I couldnt tollerate it even as a young boy, so my parents finally freed me from it. The mormon church or 'LDS' as they like to be called teaches to have respect for all cultures and beliefs even those that differ from their views, they may not think its right, but they say they are in no place to judge another person, that is up to 'god.' Now it is prominant mainly amongst male lds youth to be quite homophobic and extreme right-wingers, but no not all of them are like that, my friends for instance were quite liberal mormons even though they stayed true to their faith. About polygamy, yes the church used to practice it, why, noone today can really tell you except that a lot of people back then i guess did it and during the pioneer times when the mormons traveled here, to salt lake, many of the husbands died so other husbands would sort of take them and their children in sometimes as other wives. The sect that broke away from the main teachings of the church is actually joseph smiths wife, they believed that prophets were like a monarchy and passed down through family and practices such as polygamy were accepted, joseph actually taught otherwise, he said only god could choose a prophet. I dont believe in god and think its all mumbo jumbo but I thought I would help inform you of mormons because, even though im not one, i was raised in the church and try to clear up any fog so to speak about the church.

On a side note the leader of the sect that broke away, the reformed lds church, was arrested last week, warren jeps i think is his name. He was arrested for polygamy and pedophilia, and im sure somethings else as well. My schools teachers are like 90% mormon and they cant stop talking about it because they are so happy he is caught, it actually gets quite annoying :( im trapped in this super conservative place HELP ME!! lol

Do Mormons still experience the same outright prejudice they experienced in the 1800's? Obviously not stuff like being exiled and murdered by the state but I mean by other Christian denominations in the US. Has the oppression of Mormons become more relaxed or do a lot of people still hold the same views as they did in the 1800's? I studied the American West for GCSE History and a large part of the course was about the Mormons.

I think alot of the hate for mormons still exists. At my school, all the mormons kinda band together, for obvious reasons. whenever the subject of mormons rose in my class, I usually here the same crap. Then I got pissed. Again, I still respected the mormon religion, and I usually stood up for them. But know because of their homophobic attitudes, I don't know if I should anymore.
