University of Central Florida Students Hold Second Talk-In Opposing UCF's
Free _Expression Policy

On Thursday, September 9, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., in the UCF John T.
Washington Center, the UCF Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) will
hold their second talk-in. SDS members will disperse along the breadth of
the John T. Washington Center, sitting on benches and holding signs to
provoke dialogue with passers-by about UCF's active repression of free
_expression, in particular its delegation of free assembly zones.

The impetus for the event stems from SDS's first talk-in, where armed
police threatened to arrest UCF students for trespassing. After exhausting
all legal channels within the university, the UCF administration reaffirmed
its repression of free _expression and sided with the unconstitutional
aspects of the Golden Rule and the UCF Police Department.

UCF students, faculty, employees and visitors must witness the university's
disdain for the United States' laws and values, and SDS will provide the
glimpse this Thursday.

Representatives of the Central Florida Chapter of the American Civil
Liberties Union will be on hand to monitor the treatment of the students by
campus police and officials.

SDS opposes UCF's free _expression policy because:

1. It violates rights guaranteed under the First Amendment to the U.S.
Constitution, Florida Constitution Section 4 and Section 5, and UCF Golden
Rule 2A, including 2A(3), 2A(4), 2A(5), and 2A(6).

2. UCF's free assembly zones are isolated, remote, unprotected from the
elements, and do not afford ample opportunity to provide a public forum.

3. It produces a chilling effect, a fear of possible arrest for exercising
legitimate First Amendment Rights.
