October 4th 2006 is the 70th anniversary of the Battle
of Cable Street. This was one of the most significant
events in 1930s Britain, when Sir Oswald Mosley's
Blackshirts were turned back as they attempted to
march through the East End. The illusions of power and
supremacy that Mosley had cultivated were stripped
away for ever.
To mark this anniversary ANTIFA are holding a major
gig in east London on Saturday 7th October. More
details of bands, the venue and ticket arrangements
will be released in the coming weeks.
One of the ways we can understand the present, is by
understanding the past. There is nothing inevitable
about the rise of the BNP, just as there was nothing
inevitable about the rise of the British Union of
Fascists. Class War hopes to see as many people as
possible support this gig, but more importantly taking
action against the BNP in the coming weeks and months
